Wow! I seem to have it made where I am. I am paying 100 $ cash for every junk car. This girl takes off the Cat. the radiator, the wheels, rims, battery, alternator, starter. I get 190 per ton auto. usually toss in some extra junk to get a better price. save the rims till i have a good pile of alum and steel rims, then take them in. same with the converters and elec motors. Unlesss i am short on cash...lol then i just go through the big scale and walk my small stuff over. My usual scrap yard pays me $5 more than other customers who don't come in as often, and I usually get my check before them too. Maybe its because I am there a lot, bring the well behaved kids in everytime...or simply because I am polite..I don't know, I just chill and it works for me. There is a little work in the radiators of everything. I cut all the copper off and sell that separate also. Lot of work, can be good pay. Fortunatly I dont have to remove any liquids at the scrap yard i go to. So super added bonus!

    59 chevy flat bed

I actually have a chance to pick up a chevy flat bed from 1959 I am thinking about offering $150 as the seller is asking $250 and has been told he can get $390.

Car is WAY far though...I mean I can do the trip but it might cost half a tank of gas or more considering weight and mileage. Probably gonna just offer $100 otherwise now worth it unless he is telling the truth. Gonna call around tomorrow and see.

That'd be a great restoration project if it isn't to rough and if you could find some one looking for one. Just a cab of a 50s or 60s truck around here with rusted out floor boards are sellin for 5 or 600 easy.

There's money in both, but one's illegal or frowned upon.

Jump on Craigslist and start hunting for cheap cars. Use key words like wrecked, damaged, head gasket(s), problem(s), overheating/overheats, transmission/engine problems, totaled, no title, accident, doesn't run, won't start, etc.

Also advertise that you buy cars.

I got the truck for $150. We are just waiting on dimensions to make sure my 16ft heavy duty will actually haul his truck due to the sheer width of something like that. It would really suck to get out their and it not even be large enough to do the job. I knew we needed a car hauler but it didn't have side railing like this trailer does for hauling stuff other than cars. I just gotta bring the guy some ammo too haha.

I see you're buying at 7 cents a lb. Do you take the car, scrap it so you know what it weighs, then come back to pay?

Well seeing I havnt got a single car yet I aint doing anything. But I plan to pay the 7 cents per pound based on the curb weight of the vehicle. That way at min ill make 3 cents apound just dragging it to the yard. But make most the profit from strippin it down. I figured If i can make 2 to 300 a car I would be happy camper for now. but like I said I havnt got a single car yet.

Don't forget motor homes, campers, travel trailers, etc.

A bit more work than a car or truck as far as stripping and turn around time, but I get what vehicles I can get.

    Picked this up for $140

I don't go out looking for cars. If I am contacted about a car I tell them $50, if they like the price then great, if not I will give them a name for one of my guys I deal with and let them settle up. Usually they will take the $50. I don't get many cars, but usually all the cars I get are from old farms, them farmers love to stick things in their hedge rows.

As a side note, I don't do this as my full time job, so I have the luxury to pick and choose my jobs. I don't contact people for their scrap, I let them contact me. I rarely use Craigslist, I do have an ad in the Labor section, but most of my work comes from word of mouth. I will give a price and if the client doesn't like it they can go somewhere else. But most of the people that contact me don't give me much of a problem and I can fill my trailer about 2 times a month. It gives me an extra $250 - $300 a month.

Do scrapyards pay any different if you take a whole car in versues if you cut it up? I know they pay depending on the weight but is there a price difference per pound?

My yard pays shred price of 195 a tonne for stripped cars and 260 a tonned for whole cars. But you make alot more then If you strip them out I would think. Good to know I can get $1000 bucks for my f350 if it dies though
