    Insulated Al wire

Had a little time today so ran a bunch of insulated Al wire through the stripper to see about recovery. At all the yards I know of Insulated Aluminum has a pretty huge gap vs. EC Wire price. Ins Al is usually priced as if recovery is 65% or so. But the lowest I found today is in the picture below and the highest was 85%. To be sure there is Ins Al out there that is only around 55% with very thick insulation. But most that I get is closer to 75-81%. As a general rule I don't recommend stripping wire if the goal is maximizing $ as time spent locating more scrap to sell usually pays more than stripping. But if your yard has an enormous gap between EC wire and Insulated Aluminum it's not wasted time if you can strip fast. Took me about 45 minutes to do 150 pounds or so and turned $34 into $95.
