As luck has it I ran across this arc welder after the contest was over.
Before anybody says “Why didn’t you sell it” well the thing smelled like mouse pee and was full of nests, besides that somebody already cut the neutral/negative lead of the thing and hot lead I didn’t get. Power cord was still on it though.
I know you guys like pics so here it goes.
The victim: Montgomery Wards 230 amp Arc welder.
The guts.
The nice copper wire gauges in the field coils. The small is 10 gauge and the large is about a quarter inch thick.
The smaller side of the transformer only net 4.25 pounds
I hope the large side nets more.
The large side did quite a bit better with a total of 14.5 pounds after I stripped the power cord.
