    What to pay helper?

what would you guys/gals pay a helper when you put all the money up front on purchases of vehicles and you pay all the gas, own the truck and dolly or trailer, you pay all maintenance and buy meals? helper only helps load and ask for vehicles other then that when asked to help remove parts or get tools its either get yourself or it takes for ever for the helper to actually help out.

I've found it's best to pay them by the hour.

I misread the question, old people do that! I pay my helpers between 12.50 and 15.00 an hour depending on what they are doing.

Thats a fair hourly for part time help, some of you guys should be looking at half way houses for extra help. Just make sure your father is aware they're not permitted to drink alcohole.

The guys from the half way houses welcome a day away from the joint and are eager to please so that they can have other days out.

I agree with Joe, I usually paid my help 10 to 15 an hour depending on the job. Believe or not still hard to find help at that money.

I'd fire him so fast it wouldn't be funny, I treat my help good but only if they do what I tell em when I Tell em, otherwise they can beat feet.

i even pay him while hes eating, driving and riding is half of scrapping, the main thing to consider is you have to take care of someone who helps you, in my situation i asked him and he said yes, in reality he is doing me a bigger favor than im doing him.

In the world as I know it the rule of thumb on finders fees start at 10% in one case I put a deal together for a scrap yard in BC that did not result in a finders fee but an extended frienship.

The deal resulted in that yard acquiring a regular bi weekly pick ups of scrap aluminum cuttings from shear cropping from a trailer manufacture, I knew that we were moving and this did not fit into my plans so I passed it forward.

Now that I live in Manitoba I still reap the rewards from that deal where I'm able to send samples through the mail for an XRF analysis and have the results emailed back to me.

Most would say thats peanuts, yes on the surface it would appear as such. But you have to take into consideration the whole picture then ask yourself who have the majority of the scrap industry cornered, I assure you it's not the Swed's from where my ancestry originates from.

In time you will discover that the old yards are indirectly all related through blood or marriages., if you make a yard friend on the West Coast this will be extended to the East Coast.

Get it yourself would only be said twice. To which id reply ok. And no more work for you guy. In this buisness if you pay a man to do a job that is what he should do. Usually when your the one paying that gives you the title of BOSS.
