OMG Whale! Gaylord of desk phones?

So I made 2 trips about 25 minutes out today. Picked up 80 towers (probably like 50 computers, 30 servers), a few printers, battery backups, keyboards, etc, etc. ALL FREE! Holy $#!^! They want me back tomorrow to pick up MORE. Tomorrow I shall be picking up 20 CRT's, probably another 15 towers, a gaylord of desk phones, server racks, metal shelving, and this huge (washing machine sized) tape back-up machine that weighs like 500 lbs. A lot of this stuff isn't even that outdated. There are a lot of Pentium Pros and such, but a lot of these desktops are Windows XP, 2+ gigahertz. Are these going to be worth anything re-sold? There are also A LOT of Sun servers.

What can expect from that gaylord of desk phones? Are there telecom grade boards in them? Do they have resale value?

    Thanks you!

Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

Surprisingly, it was a caller from Craigslist. I asked him if he wanted me to make an offer or if he just wanted them gone and he said "I just want them gone haha." Can't argue with that! I mean, I told him that I'll probably throw a little bit of a cut his way because it is WAY MORE than I would have ever expected. Plus, it is a high-tech graphics company and they replace their computers every 3 years, and I want them to have my name and number and remember that I cut them in on it. It's crazy intense, all of this stuff (when it was bought 4 or 5 years ago) was worth over $500,000. ****!

I think those are going for around $40. ea. up here on C.L. with a clean install of XP pro.

Nothing is more gratifying then doing your own research locally and finding buyers for all your stuff. Scour CL and other sources. Like computer shops, etc. Good chance they might be interested in the computers. The servers, their is a store here called the Reuseum that likes that kind of stuff. They're nationwide. Just keep in mind that their are plenty of places around that WILL buy your stuff for more than scrap value.

Sit on it for a while. Whatever you do, do NOT start breaking down to "get some money flow" "just get it out of the way, look how much more i've got coming in!" It could quickly turn $10,000 into $500.

That is a very true statement. I will definitely start doing some local research.

That was also my concern, it is a lot to deal with. Maybe parting out will be a better option...but then how do I know what does/doesn't work?

you plug em up! set you a table in a corner, put you a monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse on it! have a power cord for the tower, easy enough to sort them out from there, learn how to make em work

even if you don't have an operating system you can legally install, the working computers of 2+ghz should easily bring $40+, even to a shop. (you think he sells em for 40? ) nope! Having to install a fresh OS, and making it a solid one, is worth far more than that, on any machine, but first thing, they need the machine, you've got em!

All fine and dandy, but my storage unit has no power. -.- I guess I could take 10 at a time or something to somewhere that DOES have power haha.

Still, the question arises about the desk phones.

you got no power at home? no place to set up a lil work bench, to check them out with? all you need is room for the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and a spot to set the tower, so you can plug it up and see what it's made of

for the phones, look em up! I had a box (big huge box) on top of a load of computers all the way from louisville KY to Nashville TN once, stopped somewhere to check the load, it was almost fell off the top (i'd really wished it had) but they turned out to be good phones, still got a couple of em, almost ten years later. Sold the rest on Ebay, 2-4 at a time, made some good money off em too

With a little more looking, it looks like from $ 40. to $ 100 depending on how much ram and if any are dual core, or maybe has a DVD burner and bigger HD

Maybe charge a battery backup unit at home and take it to your storage. Should be able to test a few per charge I would guess depending on model.

Perhaps invest in a small generator if this could be used at your storage yard. Doing them at home would be more comforatable though!
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Put the phones on Craigslist in the business section. If you aren't sure if they work and just want to break them down, the boards REALLY Vary...the more expensive the brand of phone, the more expensive the board inside.

Congrats! Don't forget to take them a pizza! People respond better to food than money!
