    Angle grinder suggestions?

I'm in the market for a new angle grinder. Any particular brand worthy of utmost praise?

I use a corded Dewalt 4-1/2". Had for about 2 years and is holding up well. leave the guard on will prevent unplanned mishaps.

I have one sorta like that, has a 'softstart' (good) & over center disc guard (good too) & works really well.

Make sure the screws holding the face plate onto the head (the casting around the shaft) don't come loose.

Check them everytime you use the grinder (I'd, from the start, replace them with longer screws & then use wire or tabs or something to stop the screws undoing).

Mine came loose & the gap opened up & the gears started to seperate & that wore the teeth out, after taking it apart & cleaning & putting it all back together, it still worked well, but the gears are louder now.

    They have plenty of power.

Take the screws out one at a time and dip the end in Locktite and put them back in. I don't think they'll come loose on you any more. My whole go-kart motor was put together with Locktite and that McCullough would turn 12,000-15,000 rpm.

Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee if you have the bucks.

If not, for 4.5 inchers my HF flew apart (literally) in under 3 days. Black & Decker and Ryobi have been lasting several months each.

My 7 inch is a Skil, but it is older than me....back when made in the USA meant something in the quality department.

I have a old black n decker 4.5" that is bullet proof. I recently bought a harbor freight 4.5 and it has halfp the power of the old one but the blades are much much cheaper since the old one requires disc's with built in arbors.

Can't find that thread at the moment but I wish Festool made a cordless angle grinder. Having run long cords through the snow many times this past winter, I'm now ready to buy a cordless grinder. Anyone have experience and use one regularly? I'm looking for suggestions to narrow down my list. Looking for a high quality tool with decent lasting capabilities.

I went to Ridgid brand 18 volt cordless tools last year and am pretty happy with them. They come with a lifetime warranty. I bought the six amp hour battery separately. The extra batteries are are expensive to buy but you get a lot of run time out of them. Batteries also carry a lifetime warranty.

The only downside i've seen so far is that the batteries don't seem to like temperature extremes. 20 deg f. (-6 C.) is a bit too cold. 90 deg. f. ( 32 C. ) is a bit too hot.

Definitely wouldn't recommend Milwaukee. Their customer service is horrid.

Not crazy about DeWalt. The quality isn't quite what it used to be.
