    Angry Calculate

I have a steam burner I can dissemble this one is 4 ft wide 5 ft long 4.5 high it is big
does any one know of a formula i can use to figure weight (more or less) like what does a 1ft x1ft cast iron weigh ?
there are also 40 lin foot of pipe to go with it 12in round

    the problems
    1) encased in asbestos
    2) in basement
    3) i know it will be hard to get it up to truck after dissembling
    4) The owner of build wants me to pay $250 then I can go to work on it .
    I figure 3600 lb = $540 with $290 profit
    If 4600 lb = $440 profit
Some burners have a copper pipe inside so i am not sure if this has it since encased in asbestos
If this was to be done proper he needs to call a asbestos removal CO. I think the cost of that is in the thousands
he really should be happy just to get some daredevil to go for it under the circumstances.

With all the work and danger involved paying $250 for it seems like an awful lot to me.

first i will pick up a painters suite toss when complete I have good masks a $30 type cover head (I can protect myself as i used to from sheet rock sanding. I will keep the product wet as i work it
I know how to do this , I don't want to sound contrite but i can't believe he wants $250 since it is encased with that stuff , I am doing him a huge favor the way i see it. But there is money there
    a 1 ft by 1 ft 1/8 thick = 5lbs
this will be 1/4 thick in some spots
even if i go 6lb per foot i feel this thing weighs 2500 pounds
    700 lb of pipe
    3200 total = $198 profit
the other weights i started the thread with i feel are not real
    as the yard guy told me 1ft X 1ft steel @1/8 = 5lb
so even if i increase it just for the heck i can't find the needed weights to creat a real profit.
10 inch round cast iron lid for a pot weighs 3 lb i can go there and count how many of them will exist

Are you certified to remove asbestos if not don't do? Why risk your financial future over a few ton of scrap? It ain't worth it tootle illegal asbesto removal and check out the fines it will make you think twice.

Your ass might be saved if you get busted and the stuff is still on his property as he might end up taking the a brunt off the heat. You get that stuff off the property and get busted while transporting it will take a long time to dig yourself out of that hole...could be life altering. And then to top it off your going to pay $250!

Good move here is what you can expect if you want to make a buck off of anything with asbestos.

Any asbestos job I've been a part of required special suit taped at seems, respirator, contained air circulation system for tent, everything tented off with sealed plastic, sealed dumpsters, air tests before tent was broke down, permits/inspections and endless paperwork.

Don't touch it with the next man's barge pole. Your health is simply not worth it. I'm not even going to ask how you would have disposed of the asbestos.

Basically, tell the guy it's asbestos, and you're not interested. Then give him the numbers of a couple of asbestos removal firms. If it was for free then I could see why you might be tempted. But you paying him to do that is a really bad deal.

    Just my opinion.

That guy has a lot of audacity asking you for $250. Sounds like he was hoping to sucker someone into getting rid of it AND making some dough on top of it.

He'll be in for a treat and a half when he finds out what it costs to have it properly removed.

I'd steer clear of this altogether.
