    14k emerald with diamonds ring

Found this today in the trash. Actually I picked up a laptop travel case (because I always pick up luggage), and since it was broken I decided to cut the aluminum zipper pulls off and the steel bars.

The ring fell out of it somewhere, and I initially thought it was my wifes, but she doesn't wear much gold.

She worked in JCPenney fine jewelry for a few years so she was easily able to tell if it was real or fake.

Come Monday, going to have it appraised. I am excited to say the least.

Dont sell it to a pawn shop. If your going to sell it find a reputable jeweler in the area they will usualy buy them.

Most jewelers will not buy used rings. The problem is they would have to admit that what they sell isn't worth what they ask. I would get an appraisal, the more you know the less likely you will get ripped off on price. I used to metal detect in the water when I was stationed in Hawaii. I found and then sold a lot of rings. So I recommend a private sale. Congrats on a great find, Mike.

I just recently used a gold refiner from Texas to move some gold that I had. They are the best deal that I could find and after dealing with them, I will never go anywhere else to unload my jewelry type items. The name of the company is ARA. Website is the following link.

    http://aragold.com/

I ended up with a slightly larger check than I had calculated. They process with AR (Aqua regia) and completely refine to the base metals. Your 12k ring is 50 % gold and probably 50 % silver. They keep the silver content and pay you 98% spot on the actual gold value that is recoverd from the said item. They also give stone recovery. From the rings that I sent in, I received 2 little baggies. One had all of the real diamond chips that were in the rings and the other had all of the colored stones that were in the rings. Any fake diamonds will come out frosted from the process and be seperated as well.

I give these guys a 10 on a scale from 1 to 10 for doing business with. Good rates, good practices, and the best deal that I could find. I found them on the gold refing forum.

NEVER sell your gold to a pawn shop or any of those jewelry buyers that say they pay the best. They don't.

I have been wanting to m ake a post about this transaction and I think this is the time to finally do it.

Its been my experience that pawn brokers are the lowest pay and "we buy gold" places are second to them. I agree that ARA is most likely one of the best places to sell gold and I understand they are buying stones as well now. I base most of this on selling hundreds of gold rings over the years. Further the guys who water metal detect and post on the "find's treasure forums" under "beach and water" forum also recommend ARA. ( www.findmall.com/ ) These treasure hunters are finding a selling gold rings on a regular basis. I still stand behind what I said before after you get an appraised value then try to do a private sale to get the most for your ring. Best to all, Mike.

I frequent that site...My wife often complains that I tend to spend more time "reading the articles" than with her
