    Volunteering to be a Moderator

As a member of this forum for many years, my activity has declined because of the spiral of the forum. I cannot critique the forum without volunteering to be of service.

For several years the ownership was questioned and other websites were created for long time members to keep in touch. The trash that is being posted turns legitimate members away. We have become the pit for the black market. I would encourage members to stand up to this garbage and try to post any and all of your activities in regards to scrapping. We need to take the forum back.

To the owner of the forum, I would like to become a moderator. My resume is posted on many of my adventures that are documented on this site. If there is someone more qualified, please give them the responsibility and authority to clean this up. Advertising illegal activity on a regular basis is not what scraping is about. My business is clean and I do not need official drivers licenses, college degrees, passports, or birth certificates.

My last request is for someone to provide the names of the other websites that were created in case this one disappears. Now for the cheap shot, what would Mechanic 688 think of this forum as he is resting in his grave.
Give back more to this world than we take.

I can understand where you are coming from. The spam and crap had me thinking about finding something new to spend my time with.

Most want to believe that they are MUCH smarter then they are in fact. That if they perform the right rituals and say the correct words that they will become what they wish or get what they desire.

Always after me lucky charms, their magically delicious.

I still check in daily to see if there are any new posts but usually just spam.........This was once a thriving community with buyers/sellers and lots of shop talk.......now it is fake passports and CBD oil..........I also will offer any help but don't wanna steal Patriot's thunder as he can be moderator but I also can't advocate for change without my offer to help........I think I joined in 2011 so I'm over 10 years active on this forum........Have seen many come and go

I think the more that volunteer, the quicker we can clean this up and return it to a valuable forum. The only thunder I perceive is anger for what we have become.

Might as well use this thread as an opportunity to say our goodbyes to one another.

I've been holding out on posting many of my endeavors mainly because I'm super busy, but I'll start posting on them. I agree that more frequent posts will help that. I'll get my thread posted today.

Admin has a "scrap metal forum". FB page. Claimed he was going to clean it up and get new moderators.

Yea I see that he made one post about the time he screwed up the forum by deleting relevant threads. Then shortly after the forums DNS expired and it took week for admin to notice and take the appropriate action.

How many of you actually noticed the event.

I have been a member of this forum for quite some time, and I too have noticed the insane amount of spam and inappropriate posts. I often wish I could do something about it, and also wonder why no one is appointed to do this already. I may not post as often as I used to, but I view this forum on a regular basis (not usually signed in). I want to say that, I too, would love to volunteer my assistance as a moderator. As someone who is currently and has been a moderator in the past on multiple MMORPG's as well as multiple forum communities, I am well experienced in maintaining integrity when using the tools that moderators are given in order to protect the community.
Yeah that's great and all...but...CAN I SCRAP IT!?

You are better qualified than I am and would welcome your expertise. It would be a huge learning curve for me. My only intent is to return the forum to its value of yesteryear. I would bow out if the owner would give you the reins.

Holy Moly , Guys, I came here first and wondered what this post was all about - then I went to look a new posts and NOW I get what you're talking about.
All this crap has to go ! I may not be a regular weeky poster but I do post now and again and try to logon and check out what's new and exciting, updates from all the regulars as well as new members.
I even paid for a membership way back when because I felt guilty getting all this information for free and not giving something back.
I applaud all the long time members for hanging on and hope that this BS can be fixed. I second the nomination for Patriot or anyone that has the time and dedication to clean this forum up.
I'd also be willing to help out if I had some ablilty to delete the garbage postings but for me lately time is an issue so I am not sure I can give all that is needed BUT id be willing t try.
Remember... wherever you go... there you are

I wonder if things have changed. Maybe there's not much call for the forum anymore ?

So many of the scrappers in my local area have either aged out or died. Up until a few years ago ... you could pick up an extra hundred dollar bill here and there with scrapping as a side hustle. It's was not a bad gig for a retired guy on Social Security that had time on his hands.

It's kind of discouraging. That same $ 100.00 bill hardly buys a bag of groceries in the store these days.

The resource also seems to be a lot less than it was ten years ago. My thing has been copper, brass, and e-waste. The e-waste is only a small fraction of what it was six years ago. The trend has been from large items like towers & desktops to small things like cell phones. They don't use much copper & brass in plumbing anymore. It's all gone to plastic and stainless steel. That's bound to be reflected in the waste stream over time. A lot of the electric motors are wound with aluminum instead of copper now. Same with transformers. It's all about the money and the cost to manufacture. The manufacturers have gotten pretty good at doing more with less over the years.

< sigh > Everything has it's life cycle. People, technologies , industries ....... even forums.

Reminds me of the old shoe maker back when i was a kid. It used that every city and town had one but then the world changed and that trade became obsolete and fell by the wayside. (Most young people these days would have no idea of what one was if you asked them.)

Not trying to be a "Debbie Downer" here ... just a realist. The prospects don't seem all that good for reviving the forum.

The value in this forum is the information that can be found here. I realize that there is YouTube and other such venues, but they are FILLED with worthless advertising and people trying to be a $TAR weaving baskets or watching paint dry. I have watched many YouTube videos of people wasting their time simply put. Was I wasting my time watching? It was better then watching my own paint dry when I just wanted to zone out and relax. Didn't feel like sleeping quite yet basically.

If this forum gets cleaned up and don't look like a 2 dollar bimbo to those checking in, then it would be useful as in this world of AI and bots, is it real or is it memorieX2?

Thought I would add this. This world as we know it is moving faster as the time passes. People trying to multi task and reach their far out dreams that are mostly illusion.

The slow path has been paved over for years now and creating one is only possible within a well thought out plan.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Ahh well ... you know what they say :

    Man plans ....God laughs.

It does seem to be a very fast paced world. My dad's generation called it the rat race with everyone chasing the American dream.

Nowadays it's more like the Red Queen's race. You gotta run just to stay in one place.

The forum I help out with has a feature where new registrations are compared with a "stop forum spam" database. Most spammers never even get past that.

If they do, there's also a "one touch spam cleaner" which at the push of a single button deletes the spam post and all other posts by that user, and bans them.

Seems like those would be really handy here...

Edit to add: It took some looking around to find it, but apparently this forum is using VBulletin. The forum I referenced above uses something different.
