    Hobby scrapper

I've noticed there are a variety of types of scrappers here. That's good because I can learn a few things and think the professional scrapper/ businessman needs the hobby scrapper as well as the hobby scrapper needs the businessman.

I am 65 and have been scrapping since I was 10 years old, but I consider myself a hobby scrapper . I work in the construction field as a sub-contractor and do not scrap for the need of money but I enjoy doing it. I have many opportunities to get scrapable items both from contacts at work as well as by participating in auctions when I have the time. I like to get my stuff for nothing or close to nothing . I recently had my scrap truck, a full size 8 foot bed with tall camper top filled, and cleaned it over the week-ends while I was off work.

I try to stay caught up but I have a large pile of stuff ready to clean and can't resist getting a load of free stuff , that I will clean before hitting my reserves. I also sell anything I can on ebay and I'm well set up for that to make that as easy as possible. Very little non-ferrous goes to my ready-to shred pile and I may clean stuff that some would pass on because of the time it takes. I have tonnage of clean copper and brass and have sold tonnage of aluminum and stainless this past year.

I live in town on about an acre of property. I keep my land looking nice ,but a person has to scrap according to priority of keeping their place looking nice which is not always scrapping what will bring the most money. Nothing like taking stuff apart that you don't have to put back together.
