I don't really hunt down wire but lately I have been lucky.

In the past month I have bought (at a good price) just over 300 pounds of bare bright, romex and spools of solid core wire in six different buys. Of course, with my luck, most need to be stripped but I have a good electric stripper.

I also have a souvenir business and three gift shops gave me orders for the upcoming tourist season.

Here I am cyberdan, at yardsales I am dollardan

Is that all of them combined ? What gauge are the spools?. Is the Romex different sizes to?. Break down how weights?.

I just saw your post. Very few spools. Most wire was old and pulled from construction places a few were new and from electricians. I had to straighten and trim to 24 inches to easily remove from the outer insulation and then run through my stripper.

    Mike:

    According to my records:

Assorted spaghetti wire ( THHN) is about 83% copper recovery by weight.

10 ga romex is about 70% copper

    12 ga well wire is 61 %

    YMMV

    Dan

The romex can be easy to strip in 10 foot lengths. Grab one of the wires inside and put it in the bench vise. Pull the ground wire with a pair of pliers and it rips off the outer insulation jacket. It works with UF wire too but not quite so easily.

I'm afraid i'm getting spoiled lately. I've been running into hot water coils made of copper & brass. It's an easy 7 - 11 lbs of #2 copper and 9 lbs of brass.

Been saving my wire to process this winter when things are slow and there's not as much coming into the shop.
