Would be a retirement dream but no guarantees the body strength in 70's
I can see I had more power 50's
    60's now & a bit less
Will I still lift at 70's ? I think i should be able
I have some crazy memories 30 plus boilers
    fridges in dumpsters
    I was crazy
I look at what I got & yes it was a type of brilliance for future survival
    values go up and down
even in the severe down market as a few years ago
    $100 for a trip I could do
if markets are up just easer for the $100 minimum
but yeah I had many a day $500 $600 plus
look I'm humble and simple With a stash of value
I realize other scrappers here make $$$$ Hats off to you
    you do it .
I am me and scrapping is all flavors
I've met many , one I remember he said Get it sell fast
To this day you still got cord cutters who ever they are
In the forum not sure any have ever come forward and confess

Any chance any local young people might want to help you with the lifting and hard labor for a few bucks? You can be the "coach" with the scrap knowledge and tell them what to do, pay them a fair wage for a days work, help them out, and still make some profit without ruining your body! Any younger family members kids, grand kids, neices or nefews who need a few bucks could be even better as it keeps the money in the family.... just a thought! good luck

My son at sixteen has more under standing then he knows , I told him if you can remember some of the things I have done once you drive there is money here .
In the end gonna be up to him . My last scrap truck ,should prove to be the best purchase . A simple truck 1986 - 90,000 miles not complex . Just been so busy
with another career . So scrap took a back seat . But i will still bring home Copper wire and all the dense values .
Funny when a coworker sees me stop for a battery .
One story is cool I feel . I was with a worker we were spraying oil sealer paint on all the 2x4 from a SERV PRO job fire restoration project
well oil paints came in 5 gallon metal cans 20 plus cans with meatal lids .
Lunch time came & told him I have an idea .
I put all the empty's in the pickup & took to yard. I think we got like $8
and got lots of chicken nuggets with drinks for lunch .
People like money But that moment would never convert him to that side work.
The mind set of scrappers are unique With skills

Hopefully your son picked up some knowledge from you, and even if he didnt, there is still plenty of time to teach and implant your wisdom on him.

Once he is driving, when he asks for gas money or money to go to the movies with friends, you can walk him out to the yard, pickup a few copper and brass bits, hand them to him, point him to the scrap yard and send him on his way. He'll learn just from that what stuff gets him more money and begin pickup on on whats worth what... Like if you give him an all copper load and he gets more than brass he'll know copper > brass. Or if you give him a bunch of wire and aluminum he'll know those are less than brass and copper, etc

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

A lot of people knock those old Dodge trucks, and I don't understand it honestly. I have a 1986 D250 too, and it's a workhorse.

Yeah, I know- I might be just a bit overloaded. I can't imagine the tongue weight on that wagon- 1044's are a real beast of a machine. But, we had to tow it home, and when that's the largest truck you have, you find out that it's just big enough.

Thank you , never put Two and Two together
Your correct it can teach him value that different metals & weight deliver $$ = to learning of life & values .
Scrapping taught me investing (it was the seed) when I realized all metals had value if not equal value as long as you could deliver
    the weight
about a year into scrap it occurred to me 5 pounds of copper@ $3.00 was the same as 150 pounds steel @ .10
and is the same as 1/2 oz silver bullion (at the time )
From there my mind opened even more to investing in stock crypto & other systems
and I can truly say when it started ( the real start the SEED )
I was about 6 years old , A simpler time of life when utility electric work was being done in a neighbor hood
and a little kid could watch and grab a chunk of copper wire the the workers gave no concern
I still remember I said what is this ? " Copper " is it valuable ? His Answer was " it's more valuable then You and Me "
People it is more valuable then you and me
    Here are some statistics
A percentage of Copper miners get lung cancer
Accidents I could not find percentages but
I could find stories of death in copper mine events .
When we sell to market , do we ever think of the pain & sufferings to the humans put
to it , including your pain to deliver ?
Copper is of higher value then us as

without copper & conductivity where will the world be . Many of us are the soldier's for copper
    it's a Nobile cause .

What an interesting perspective! Never thought about the fact that every lb of stuff we recycle may reduce the amount needing to be mined, which may reduce the amount of people dying in poor countries in order to try and make a living in the mines.... we are heros! we out here saving lives! ... ok maybe thats taking it a little to far, but it's an interesting thought
