Old Guys, Help the Young Guys Out....

I was having a discussion with someone who identified themselves as "younger generation", I was talking about perspective. I was wondering the best piece of old guy advice you would pass on to a young guy.

Mine would be this... You hear people say that you should confront a person with a problem you have with them. I have found it is better to bite your tongue and just let it go to see if the problem works itself out on its' own without turning it into an issue where things get said that cannot be unsaid. It seems that most times the problem resolves itself without the need to escalate into a situation that could spoil a relationship going forward.

That is probably the best advice off the top of my head for you young guys.

When I was about 4ish I would visit my grandparents and they lived near the Mississippi river in North Minneapolis. So when I would be staying with them I would be outside as soon as possible and off on my travels. There were plenty of "winos" around the river in their hobo camps a cooking and such. I would visit with some of them and I remember what one told me when I asked him what was the secret to life. He told me that with Wisdom you can find the answers. I still remember that as I found that it was very True.

I myself have never been a child by choice as it didn't interest me as I was interested in a world far different then the norm. I wanted to know who I was and where I might be headed. I figured that out well enough through the years.

Dictionaries and their words are very vague in the bigger picture. This is a vague world filled with the many confused that try and seek the easiest path to what they want to believe they are seeking. Most try and run away from themselves and what bothers them.

I mention dictionaries as I have many and have looked through them over the years and found that if you picked most any word and kept following the path to other words explaining what the word meant, you end up where you started and no clear meaning of the word.

Then there are the Law dictionaries that have the legal meaning of words.

I find that the younger people are already stressed out beyond what is healthy as they are surrounded by mostly stressed out others of all ages.

A friend told me years ago when I pointed out the flaws in his great idea and plans that all he had was his dreams.

Take a look at the gambling of all sorts and how so many keep chasing the carrot at the end of the stick.

If a person spends their time and thought trying to figure out a "miracle" way to basically make a magic wand so they can use it to solve their problems, they never put much thought into the reality and truth of their plans.

Nothing new under the sun when the many try and have their fun.

I'm hard put to come up with any one best piece of advise for a younger hand. It's all situational.

I suppose if anything .... it would be to try and base your relationships on the qualities of honesty, acceptance, respect, and trust. This would be especially true with the women in your life.

Honesty: Hurt her with the truth but never ever hurt her with a lie. Most women find emotional honesty in a man to be a very admirable trait. They despise liars.

Acceptance: Accept that the woman is different than you. The may think and feel differently about things than you do. If you can't riddle it out ... simply accept that she is who she is and cherish her for the person that she is.

Respect: Always respect your woman. ( Anyone could spend a lifetime learning the art of respect.)

Trust: Never ever ever break the trust.

There you have it ... the acronym H.A.R.T.

I thunk that one up all on my own.

My best advice at 4:20am is never, ever use acronyms. Sorry Hills, you're a good person so just ignore me.

Your character and word are two things that can not be taken from you, you have to give them away.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Good one, Patriot, but I would tend to believe that throw them away more accurately describes someone who has lost those qualities.

< Gentle Laughter > No ... not really a good person Jim. I had to learn a lot of this stuff the hard way. I made my mistakes and took my lumps. I would hope that a young fulla coming up would have an easier time of it.

Acronyms ? Just wait till you get to be an old fart. The memory ain't as good as it used to be. You'll see.

Hills scratches his head. H .... now what the hell was that anyway .... ohh yeah ... now i remember !

    C.R.S. ? ayuh ! I know that one. Can't Remember $hit.
