Tip: Cheap double axle car trailers...

Haven’t been on it quite a while as I drive big rigs 14 hours a day but decided to get back into scrapping due to burn out being on the road.

I was in search of a good trailer, preferably a car hauler which led me to Uhaul’s truck sales website. Seen a dual axle car hauler they were retiring so I decided to go check it out.

Thing was ugly as hell, tons of surface rust but it appeared they serviced the bearings, 4 new tires, brand new lights, and fresh brake fluid. They had it listed at $1595 plus $49 doc fee, I called corporate and told them I had $1200 out the door for them. Lady was really nice and countered my offer by reducing the price to $1000 plus doc fee.

I pulled it home, and they sent title 2 day priority mail from Louisiana. Just wanted to share this information as I expected Uhaul to be set in stone on their prices.

Just got to get it plated, and take a wire brush and paint to it all.
Scrap Yards call me crazy when I pull up with a ton of steel in my Saturn sl2.....

Awesome and good for you . I’m about 40 miles to the north of you in blue Island . I also drive so very familiar with the 14 hour days (they suck) . Anyways if that trailer pulls good and works out for you maybe a little sandblasting and a paint job is in the future. I’m assuming your using Belson for your scrap yard , I always wondered if that was a good place to do business with . Maybe you can chime back in with info on Belson . Good luck with the trailer .

Belsons is a great yard, been going there since I was a little kid earning pocket money(about 20 years). Very friendly and best prices in the area for steel and copper.

Acme out of Kankakee is also pretty good, they accept catalytic converters and pay a little better on batteries.

From my understanding, belsons won’t buy complete cars so acme will be my go to.

If they're willing to negotiate on their trailers, I wonder if they'd cut a deal on a box truck....

I mean, I know U-Hauls don't get treated well, but it can't possibly be any worse than my last box truck was

I was told they negotiated on the trucks as well. From my understanding, the older the truck or trailer, the more their willing to negotiate to get it off the lot.

The managers at the uhaul locations where you’d pick up your purchase have no negotiating power, you call corporate and they put a note in the system. Managers or person ringing you up get a $50 commission so they are very happy to do it.
