    Scrappers from Houston, TX Area

As of today it has been exactly one year since Hurricane Harvey moved onshore in Texas and devastated the Houston area and beyond. I'm sure there are some SMF members from that part of the country. I haven't seen any postings on this site about what it has been like to scrap there over the past year. I'd imagine it could have been huge. On the other hand, you likely had lots more competition and people saying things like "You can't take that until the insurance company settles with us."

Commercial Metals Co. stock (Ticker: CMC), one that I mentioned as a potential benefactor back then on the Seeking Alpha website, is up over 25% since then. Frankly, however, I thought it would do even better than that.

Right now Hawaii is getting battered by the remnants of Hurricane Lane. Anything you post here might be helpful to scrappers in that area in the near future.

Thanks in advance. I bet this has been one year you will never forget.

I'm in Houston and the flood didn't really impact my scrapping too much. Sure there was plenty of things to be picked up the first couple weeks after the flood. Everyone got their demo done immediately and the scrap was gone. I had a chance to haul alot of shelving and equipment from a grocery store after the flood but couldn't haul it away in the 1 day time frame they offered. There was a shortage pf roll off containers the first couple weeks following. It was back to usual pretty quickly with regards to scrapping. My focus has always been related to commercial construction and I am not seeing anything a year later related to it for scrapping opportunities.

Thanks fro the info. I wonder how those in the Hilo, Hawaii (Big Island) area will fare. I wonder if being on an island will make it that much tougher for them, since they don't have areas like Dallas, Austin and San Antonio to lean on for help.
