How Many Scrappers Have Clean Houses?

I am curious about something, even though I have a guess as to the answer. It is hard to quantify this (and if it is too personal- skip to the next thread). How clean is your house- inside and out? If we use a scale of 1 (rat infested, animal droppings everywhere, can barely walk from room to room without bumping into stuff- whether it is scrapping material or just stuff that we have/hoard) to 10 (immaculate- think medical lab clean), how would you consider your house? You can give separate ratings for the inside, outside, garage, shed(s), if you like. If you want to share photos, that would be fine too.

I would say that the inside of my house is a 3, the outside is a 6 (front yard looks much better than the back where I keep my metals), and the garage is a 2. It is a two car garage, but we strain to get one car in there. Before I scrapped, I'd say the back yard was an 8 (see what scrapping has done to me!).

Also, if your house is immaculate, but the total of all your scrapping materials would fit inside a breadbox, that is just not fair! Go onto another thread...

Any before/after stories that you might have should also be included herein.

Inside of the house when the wife is home 7. When she is gone it is a 3 because it becomes a bachelor pad with endless remodeling projects. The shop, shed, and outside storage is a 10 because it is just the way I want it.

I operate out of my basement, so I'd say the area I occupy there is somewhere around a 4 to 5. The rest of the house is more like an 8 or 9.

Home is an easy 9. The shop...hahahahahaha 3 or 4 for operation areas and 9 for our testing area, if not better than that we have really clamped down on the customer material areas, no mess, everything is binned, it's gotten hospital like.

The house is a 7-8. The shop on the other hand is a 2-4 when inventory comes in, after inventory is sorted it goes up to a 5-6. The testing/repair area is a 5-6. After all, organization keeps the operation effecient.

Just my own theory here, but I'd imagine that those who live on large plots of land (10 acres+) in the country would have lower scores than those living in areas where they pay association fees or have neighbors all around them very close by. I have a decent sized lot, but smaller than an acre. I have to admit that if I lived on a smaller piece of land, I would definitely have less stuff. We currently have four sheds here and more stuff stored offsite.

Neat tidy and organised, my shop on the other hand is a different story with 4 projects on the go it's a bit messy twice a week I pass the broom over the floor then use a magnet to pick out tools and screws etc. from the sweeps.

Inside is a 4, outside would be about 7. The storage unit I occupy would be a 2. I would prefer to do almost anything over cleaning, so that's my story.

The family dumping ground ( garage ) is very messy .
    Outside is almost spotless .
Inside of the house is relatively organized .
My own bedroom is an 'organized mess' .

The inside living area is about a 7

    The basement is a 4

The outside ?? It looks nice when the lawn is mowed. Humm .... well .... i dunno. That two foot high grass hides a lot.

I fail to fathom what these inane questions have to do with earning a living.

I could care less if my neighbour ate his meals out of a trough with the pigs or if his wife disposed of her moon rags on the floor beside the toilet.

I have nothing but admiration fro the man willing to pull the rag out and do an honest days work to advance his goals.

    I am a part-time scrapper.

9 inside except the basement where there's a bunch of boxes that haven't been opened. Outside an 8 cause I need to put some sod down still.

It's pretty clean, except the basement where we haven't fully un-packed even though it's been over a year since we bought our house. I don't leave scrap on my truck overnight and never more than 24 hours in my back yard or garage. The only thing I don't sell right away is brass and copper and I keep it organized in my garage.

I'm not sure how you can afford to keep the scrap out of your back yard and garage. Are you really close to a scrap yard and always have enough to justify the trip?

The house both inside and outside is a solid 8-9, just the way both my wife and I like it. My shop (separate from the house) is usually about 3-5, depending on how much scrap I have accumulated. I don't keep any scrap outside.
