Scored some 10) servers and 2) battery backups this weekend, wondering if there is any value OVER scrap price. All got rained on before I got home. All hard drives were removed. Name: 20180602_150620.jpg

Rained on = scrap. Just never know what damage rain does- especially on anything electronic.
"Lot" of it looks old enough that I would be taking all of it apart this weekend. Just my .02

Rain on circuit boards is not always a deal breaker. A common process in manufacturing circuit boards is to wash them in water. If it was heavy rain you may want to take an air compressor hose and blow off the units as much as possible. If the water sits on the boards for more than 2-3 days you may risk damaging the boards.

I'm figuring with servers & such.
If I have picked it up as 'ewaste'. Ewaste is all its good for. Security systems could have value though.

I was at a radio station (Music FM) & noticed the server they had. The guy noticed that and said " They paid $20,000 for that. In X years they will have finished with it and they will sell it as scrap steel.."
"Why" I asked.
"Well when they buy it, they get so many years of free updates. Once that's finished, any 'bugs' in the programme won't get fixed or upgraded. At that point everyone knows that that servers got 'bugs' & how to exploit it... And That could cost them a lot of money.
So once its out of its working life, they scrap it & buy a new one".

Makes sense to me now.

I scrapped 3 of those same servers a couple of months ago, they didn't have the CPU, memory & hard drives though.

Yep, I believe they are too old to be better than scrap value , also looks like memory was stripped out of at least one.
I have to agree with sledge and I would scrap them. But just my 2cents

I scrap most of the servers I get but I always check the memory. I have found memory in some that I was able to sell for a good price.

Quite the nice assortment of stuff you harvested, there. Shipping those parts (Check on the CPUs- sometimes they have a little value over scrap) will be a LOT cheaper than it would have been to try to ship whole units. Parting these out was the right move IMO

Server RAM is different from normal RAM (from what I have read).
In server RAM they include a extra 'bit', its either 0 or 1.
For every byte, its either a odd or even value & the RAM gives a even value a '0' & a odd value a '1'.
If once the bytes travelled further & the computer detects a odd value byte, but with a '0'. ( or even value with a '1' )There's something wrong.
So it knows to go back thru & reprocess that byte.
OK, its only going to get 1/2 of the mistakes, but that helps the computer a fair bit.

And, I'm not that knowledgeable about computers so this explanation is as best I can do & also my interpretation..

And, check what the CPU & power supply's are worth on eBay etc.
I checked model numbers of a tape reader server & they wanted like $800 for the power supply's.
OK, its defiantly not worth $800...& it might have been sitting there for 18 months for sale.
But, if somebody suddenly needs one 'Right Now'.
$800 (+ p&p) is the least of their worry's...
