Sending my first large load of scrap via freight!

Have had a few exchanges with that non-local buyers now but today am sending my first really large shipment, just under 2300lbs on two pallets! Everything from PSUs to CPUs. Looking forward to following the process and not texting the buyer more than once every eleven minutes.

Wow, I wish I could do this, how long did it take to accumulate all that stuff? It takes me forever to get close to 69 lbs.

You know for someone who used to operate a forklift for a living I made a lot of pallet mistakes with this load. Not only did I not stack the pallets like you indicated, the pallets on the bottom aren't conducive to using pallets jacks (though are fine for forklifts). But I don't have a forklift, just a jack! And one of the bottom pallets is too small so it's now on another pallet! When I took them off the truck (all praise the good lord who goes by the name Tommygate!) at the truck depot I wrapped them all over again like I was Dexter cause I was paranoid about what else I did wrong!

The first half took about two months and consisted primarily of low-grade, power and TV/DVR/Cable boards. Once I gained some initial competency at sourcing computer waste, the second half took about three weeks. I'll have another 12-1300lbs within about a week I think. I've got a few things going for me that help, most impactful is that Las Vegas is a decent sized city that generates obscene amounts of waste and there aren't many people doing this (none that I've met but I'm sure there are others). Plenty of scrappers. Not many doing e-waste. In fact the one yard that does buy e-waste for anything other than tin price I buy from them! Another thing is in this load there is probably 500lbs or so of low-grade and power boards, 300lbs of power supplies and more, stuff that wouldn't make economic sense to ship at the Fed-ex price. Shipping at this volume and weight I can be less picky and still come out ok.

Once you get your read out of what you get paid for this shipment you will be able to determine what is worth shipping in pallet loads.

I suggest you get business cards and hand them out to other scrappers offering to buy boards and other ewaste. You could be "the man" in Vegas. One caution is keep your process to yourself, you make money for your work effort and what you know. 73, Mike

Glad I live in a large metroplex and don't HAVE TO do it this way... but I might still give it a shot next whale I land. As is, I send my ram & PCI cards to ewasted.
