    Researching

Hey guys, new to the forum, and thx for the welcome in the introduction. Have a story for ya on a computer I picked up. A month or so I responded to a cl add for computers and parts. Guy had pics of a lot of stuff his uncle had left in his basement. Wanted $200 for all. I responded and offered him $50 and he accepted. Went the next day with wife's 4 door 2500 hd, 8' bed with camper. Thank god I didn't take my s10. Anyhow bed completely packed with 30 desktops, 20 laptops, 20 or so cpu's and boxes of all kinds of cords, ram, monitors CD/DVD drives. Massive stuff for me as this was my first ever cl add response. Filled truck and back seat. I have saved 3-4 computers. One in particular that I tried and tried to find something on with no success. Today I tried again just because. Well the computer has nothing knit on the case and is an older computer. All that's on it is a sticker, 1"X1", white background with a red name "Vincent" on it. Today I googled "what is a Vincent computer". One of the first things that came up was Vincent computer sales and repair on the other side of atl from me so I called to maybe see if they had a clue. Can't dance so what the heck I thought. Well the owner "Vincent" answered the phone and I explained my situation. To my amazement and disbelief, he used to build custom computers and put the sticker with his name on them. Hence "Vincent computer". It was his from at least 10-15 yrs ago. Wow. I finally figured out what a Vincent computer is. Hahaha. Sorry this is so long winded, and there's more about all the other stuff I got from that load but that's it for now. Thx for reading.

That's pretty cool. I bet if it had been one of his first builds, he would have offered to buy it back. Nice score for $50.

I filled two Caravans myself yesterday with computers. Mine cost me $220, but still a hell of a deal for me. 90-some desktops, a couple small servers, a telecom box of some sort, and about 30 laptops. When I was loading the PCs I was noticing that several that I looked in didn't have any RAM. Well there was a separate box of just RAM that is itself about 25 pounds

It is a lot of work, but it sure is fun. Especially the part where we get paid.
Copper, brass, and Leather. 3 of my favorite things.

I will probably call him back here soon and see if he has any of his old ones and If not I will probably give it to him to display in his shop for old times sake. Sometimes it's not about the money. Not that its worth much as scrap or better than scrap value. And that's a good haul you got. Most of mine didn't have hard drives but that's ok lots had their ram. Once I get enough posts I'll put some pics up. And I've got another real good story also for another post

A friend bought a Commodore computer from a a yard sale (Its called a 'Garage sale' here. Something to do with Metric/Imperial?)
And kept on going on about playing games on them 'Back in the day'.

So he cranks it up, puts in a game, and his nickname is in the 'High Score' list...

After several seconds of silence, he says "This must have been 'X's' computer 20 years ago....."

Speaking of the commodore, I still have the one my dad bought for my nephew (they're still in their original boxes) in the 80's I believe, and was passed on to my son in 2000 when he was 4. The start of his computer science major now in his 3rd yr of college. They are packed in my 32' enclosed dual car hauler with all the wife's other crap she hoards, but my little bit of stuff is is too much to have around. And that doesn't include the 10'x20' storage we have of all her crap.

Both terms are used here. Not always accurately either. You see garage sales in the yard, and yard sales in the garage. On the west coast they use the term tag sale a lot.

It all depends on the location of the stuff you're selling.

Kalvlin, I get the odessy reference but I'm slow on the last of your post. I'm a little old and slow but that is baffling me. And if you add 1 letter to each of his in his name and see what you get. That's how old I am.

    Nice score!
I wonder how long he had the ad going? I don't think I'd drop from $200 to $50 unless I was really desperate. I guess a person never knows unless they throw a number out there. I probably would have ignored you, at least for a couple of weeks.

Of course, I would never have had such a pile because I would have been breaking it down myself long before it got that big

It was his uncles stuff and had left months earlier. He wanted it out of his parents basement as they were redoing it for his sister husbund and kids. He was a kid, had a job and no time to fool with it and just wanted it gone. I'll take it any day.

Its extra 'Pin money', it buys pizza for a family meal, saving cooking and a free meal, some petrol for the vehicle, maybe a tip, and a bag of Cat food.
All that appears at the same time that all that 'rubbish' disappears and that extra space opens up all by itself.
And his hand does not have to do any work and does not dip into his wallet for a while.
Its a win-win-win-win-win situation for him.

And you, got some free money too. LoL.
