    Wink Free scrapyard magnet today

My local scrapyard got taken over by a big dog scrap company a while ago, i don't know probably been like that for years. Today we're there at the nonferrous scales and my dad asks the guy where they get the magnets they always have, you know, keychain kind. The guy says their big dog company people supply them, of course. Then, the guy says something like, "they usuallly have some extra ones in the office, you can check with them".

I am now being paid at the window in the other building, almost done.

    ...

I say, "he said something about yall have magnets..?" readying myself to pay, incase. She, says something, then, goes to check some file cabinet behind her, pulls out some magnet still in a plastic wrapper. I said, "free?" She hesitstes, then says, "i don't always have them". I did not have to exchange funds for said item. Cough free scrapyard magnet cough cough.

I don't know if this is normal or if its really super crazy and i shouldn't be sharing this kind of highly sensitive information. lol. It's probably normal with big companies cause they probably send extras a lot. Sorry if this is scrap room material lol, or maybe I'm just a noob.

It is a common strategy for scrap yards to use magnets for advertising. To find out if your scrap yard provides magnets, check the employees. If they all have the same type of magnet (different colors maybe) the yard probably buys them in bulk and will give them to their regular customers. If you get a different type of magnet than the employees have then the yard has high quality magnets for business and low quality for advertising. Not all magnets are created the same.

A couple of ways to test the quality of your magnet include hanging it close to slightly ferrous stainless steel to see if it swings towards it or check how far from ferrous it creates the magnetic field. I have seen some that have to touch the steel to stick and others that will attach from half an inch. It is nice to become one with your magnet.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Scrap yard magnets come on a chain for a reason..

The yard we dealt with in B.C. gave out awesome teeshirts

Yard in Winnipeg has a daily self serve lunch buffet. Cold cuts or hot dogs.

Using the chain on your magnet as a pendulum will detect paramagnetic and diamagnetic metals. And I'll bet most scrap yards today don;t know this but carry on old traditions, the old Jews knew how to use a magnet.

Cheapest form of advertising every, makes soon much more money for them that it cost them.

And when you pull out a keyring with that magnet on it, people know that you know what you are talking about..

Yeah, so, I re-train my brain to forget perverted innuendos because i was sick of not being able to say normal words and phrases without some sexual/perverted thought being applied to them. Its pretty cool, I didn't think a thing until y'all said something.

So anyway, looks like the yard employees use the same magnet, which means I have official, legitimage, yard-compatible, ferrous testability hanging from my keyring. Say that 5 times fast.

Also, I just got a 14" electric bosch cutoff whatever death saw off c-list. Should I make a thread about it? I got a good deal but that thing is pretty scary.

Edit: nevermind I'm selling that thing I don't need a saw that big

Good idea, but they have to be more than 1/2 inch long.
