    Pinch me I'm dreaming

So I answer a Craigslist add for 6 free computers. Call the guy up and he says only 5 left. Normally I would not travel for a small load, but this guy was in the next town over and said they are older ones. So the next day I start to drive down there and get this feeling he is going to have so-so computers but with CRT monitors lol. I think it over as I'm driving, and decide I will bite the bullet and take the CRT's too if that is what he has. I get there and they are normal older Dell computers / no hard drives. No monitors, keyboards, or mice. Oh well. As we chat he say to me, I have a couple of PC boards if you want them? Sure, I said. I didn't realize he meant gold tab boards and 155 of them!!! Now that's more like it It just goes to show you that a mediocre add can turn into a major score. BUT....... to borrow Paul Harvey's line..... And now the rest of the story.... That was part one of my encounter. Part 2 as soon as I can get the pictures ready. But here's a teaser line he feeds me as I am leaving ----- Do you also have a need for some CPU chips?? SAY WHAT????

Thanks. I'll have them up tomorrow. Much better than today's finds for sure. I'll have a lot to research before I sell any of it.

Ok here goes part 2. By the way, this guy is the nicest guy I have ever met. He is probably close to 70 and sharp as a whip. So when I went back today, he opens the garage and has a nice small load, more than I expected. The first box is the CPU box. My eyeball hit the floor. Looks like more older chips than I thought. He say there are some Pentium 1 chips in there. Then I see a bunch of ram, and a ton of smaller IC chips, some with gold covered prongs. Lots of cool stuff. He then hands me a "memory module" from the 1960's. He was in the air force and said these modules were used in SAC computers, 4 units in all. Each module has 2K worth of memory...Not 2 Gigs - but 2K. WOW. Was in a Univac Corp (later Unisys) 1050 computer. There is so much to research it will take me a while to see what I really have. And if that is not enough, he says do you want some OLD tubes? Seriously ??? He hands me 2 big boxes over flowing with tubes, and says there is a real old one from the 1930's in there. I think he said its a triad? So what started out as a 6 computer post on Craigslist turns into this. And if that ain't enough, he say he will call me when he is done looking or some more stuff. All for FREE. I couldn't do it, so I reached in my pocket and handed him a $50. I felt better then LOL

Congrats. Don't be in a hurry to sell of this second load. I suggest you consider making your own small museum so later in life you will have a few mementos . Mike

Thanks. It will be a while before I can even research them. I'm going to keep the oldest CPU's and that module for sure. Probably keep some of the older IC chips too. They may even go back to the 80's.

Definitely try and sell as much of this as you can. Would be a shame to see it all melted down for scrap!

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

I don't really deal with vintage stuff much, but someone already mentioned it: Don't end the CPUs off for scrap. There are vintage CPU collectors, and I bet there are some in there that are worth a pretty penny

I'm going to save the better stuff, maybe sell them later. Here's another computer I got off of Craigslist last week. Maybe a tip for others.... I would not travel for this computer unless it was very close to my house, but since my work customers are mostly from surrounding towns, I emailed the guy and asked if I could pick it up on the way to one of my customers. That way It wasn't out of my way. Huge tower case, and he warned me - no CPU or Hard Drive.
