    insulated wire question

Is there aluminum coated copper? And what would you most likely find that in. And also silver color insulated wires in TVs. Can it still be copper?

I have never heard of Aluminium coated Copper, so I doubt there is any at all.

The 'Silver coated Copper wires are actually 'Tinned Copper wires'. They are classed as 'Copper'.

But I separate the coated Copper and Brass anyway, at the scrapyard they add tinned Copper to the 'domestic Copper when they weigh it anyway, same with the coated Brass.

Copper wire is normally coated with a varnish insullation layer, that makes it '#2 Copper'.
The varnish can be any colour at all, clear varnish is popular, today I found some bright red varnish coated Copper wire.

There is Aluminium wire that looks like Copper wire because of the varnish.
You will find this in about 5% of the CRT TV degaussing cables (the thick cable around the front of the screen) and clothes drier motors.
Its easy to figure out, scrape the varnish off in one spot and you will see the white/Silvery colour of Aluminium.
Also its a lot lighter in weight. And most of the time the varnish is bright red, green, or blue or honey coloured.
Also it snaps easy and then you can see the broken end of the Ali wire. Check it with a magnefiying lens and you can see it easy like.

Copper wire stretch's a lot before breaking and you can see the red of the Copper wire.

If you cut or snip the wire, like if its 'tinned wire' the snipping action of the jaws will smear the outside layer of Tin across the cut face of the Copper wire. And it will look like it the same colour right thru the wire.
Snapping or breaking the wire/metal is best as it breaks thru the grain of the metal and you get a really good view of what's inside it.
Ie, Coppers normally a reddish/gold colour, snap it and its a sharp darkish red colour.
