By me I remove the ends and cut or twist off the brass and put the rest in with the copper content bucket

    some plugs are copper
they are silver coated so i take a file or hacksaw blade to all silver plugs and scrape them a bit

the brass ones show brass underneath & the copper ones- u will see the pinkish copper colour

I just leave the plugs on everything, even the larger appliance cords. The weight of the insulation adds up so, the scrap yard is paying good coin for the insulation. It would take a large amount of plug tabs to make a pound of brass.

The "silver" ones are nickel plated brass. I throw those in with the regular brass, yard does not have a problem with itl.

Used to be able to scrap them with ends on here but yards started changing the rules. So now ends get cut.
Phone or other gold connector ends get saved to be mailed out (when prices go back up). Or if prices do not go up then into the copper content bin for $.02 - $.12 a pound they will go. Wire can then go as #2 insulated.
Male ends I remove the brass and add to brass pile the rest goes into the copper content.
Female ends get cut and go into the copper content bin.
Christmas lights ends and bulbs go into copper content the rest go as #2 insulated.
Computer Ribbon wire cut the ends add to gold connectors rest can go as #2 insulated.
Coax cable has its own category and I sell it as is with the dirty brass ends on. If I remove the dirty brass ends then I would add the cable to the shred steel pile.

the people that dont cut the prongs off to add weight i saw a post by a scrap yard owner and they deduct a pound or so if they see ends on electric cords...they are business people not running a charity
