So my work neighbor fixes motorcycles and has accumulated some batteries. Does anybody know scrap price off the top of their head? He wants me to buy them off him, with some room for me to make a few bucks. There is probably 10 15# motorcycle batteries 2 regular size car batteries and a couple 10 batteries.

Where do you plan to take them? Perhaps a call to them would give you more specific info.

I think he's looking for a ballpark figure. I generally get .26/lb (current price) and have seen up to .30/lb. Lead, like aluminum, has stayed pretty steady in these dark times of price dropping near me. If I could scrap only one thing, it would probably be lead batteries, I could fit soooo many in the van and there is NO tear down, just $$$ in my pocket.

It sounds like you have 200+ lbs of batteries available, so some quick math tells me you could make $60+. Shop around and you might do better. If he is uninterested in taking them in himself and you will have this same opportunity in the future, keep that in mind when you make your bid. Even if you split it, it doesn't sound like you have to go far to get them, so whatever you make will be almost straight profit plus a future contact and possibly other materials. Just my $.05 (we Canucks don't have pennies anymore).

The motorcycle batteries are bought by the pound, but car batts are bought in single units, like 7-$8.00 around here

I just looked at my main non-ferrous guy. Batteries from any vehicle thingy are down to 18 cents a pound. He was paying 30 cents earlier in the year. His "soft" lead is better at 40 cents a pound. He must have a better deal moving that then the batteries. #2 Cu is down to $1.38 a pound. Bummer.....

Here in Northern Maine were getting .15 cents per pound on average for all battery types.

Thanks. The weight is closer to 200 pounds, I'm hoping anyway, motorcycle batteries are small. I gave him $20. At .15 per pound scrap, a low but easy +$10

Not sure how wide spread they are but find interstate battery distributor. They often pay cash. .26 in central wi last I looked.

I paid $20 for the batteries = 276 pounds, or close to that. Sold for .20 pound, total about $55. So +$35
