Steal not worth my time anymore

So i normally dont deal in much steal or shred these days. But i decided to start my fall cleaning today. Took two small loads in today. Most has been accumulating for months. It was only 536lb. Total made was $20.78. Honestly not normally worth the trip, but the city would have charged me to pick it up. Yard just started taking propane tanks with the valve removed.

Last year, I would be found driving around town to pickup things like dishwashes, used bikes, etc. If I was lucky the dishwasher would have a stainless tub. Now the thought of doing that seems outrageou s I have found far better things to scrap. Steel doesn't make up much of my scrap ticket anymore. Now it's different forms of copper and aluminum.

Same here it is a byproduct of breaking down stuff, I don't go looking for steel anymore, but if I drive by and its sitting there then I'll take it. As my late father in law would say "for free, take it!"

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Our yard doesn't pay for shred currently. I dropped off some computer cases on Monday, because I needed the room. It certainly wasn't for the money!

That yard is paying $80/ton. That's pretty good in my book. Relatively speaking.

Your yard must have a close by user of their steel scrap. Consider you're self very fortunate...

Shred at my main yard is still $95 a ton, so it is still worth it for me to pick up, but I will not go very far out of my way. My main pick up right now is a plumbing company yard, and I can usually pick up every other day 6 dishwashers or 1 water heater and 4 dishwashers. The yard is only a half mile out of the way from my route to go home from work, so it is worth it.

"Steel not worth my time anymore".

I don't go looking for scrap anything, it comes to me! I'm already investing my time in it, so even at prices of $0.05 to $0.03 why not sell it. It is a byproduct in processing/breaking down almost everything and anything, steel is everywhere! Just going to need a ton to make $95 and pennies add up to dollars. I don't throw pennies away, 2+2=4 still and my bills are higher!

Got a call to pick up 2 gaylords of towers so I'll do a pit stop at the yard with my shred to make room, but I don't go out of my way anymore.
It's still at $50 a ton here and they said I can just throw my low grade MB in with the shred. That's actually good news as I'd heard rumors they weren't taking it at all anymore. Dam gossips!
