about all the scrap you threw away, or passed over, before you were a scrapper. I do, and its a horrible thought!

use to call a guy down the road to come get mine and wonder where it all came from
I'd rather not talk about the 486 motherboards that I gave away at $0.10 per pound... back when scrap was good.
More than Scrap Value Shipment Tips: http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/scrap...tml#post242349
I think back 6 years ago when i retired and bought this house and had renovation work done on it they had a hopper full of scrap i would have made a few good bucks then.
Only if I put it in the trash, if placed outside I knew someone took it and it was recycled...
About 12 years ago I threw out 2 40 yard dumpsters full of 25 Pair and cat5 communication cable. I never even thought of scrapping it. My last big haul was over 9000 lbs of cat5e cable. And it was maybe a fifth of what I threw out in those dumpsters.
I remember several times passing by fairly large piles of scrap someone was wanting to get rid of. My only thought was "good luck getting rid of that crap". Where in the hell did I put my DeLorean time machine at??????

I just wish I would have got into this sooner like in the late 90's at very least
It hurts even more thinking about the things that were scrapped instead of sold for better than scrap value. Steep learning curve.
I remember giving away a bike, lawn mower, basketball hoop poll, car battery, and pipes away to one of my former employees husband. Then I started scrapping the next year sometime. Oh well
All the time! If I had known then what I know now....I really just wish I had started earlier, I might be rich by now!
METAL IS MY MISTRESS...PLEASE DON'T TELL MY WIFE!
I think of the years more than the money. I did some long rides that could have been more productive with a load of scrap, then working on scrap at home instead of just watching television and other wastes of time.
Sold a dozen 486 computers for bout 5$ each!! Sold a pickup for 100$ and many others I'd rather not remember.
Alvord iron and salvage
3rd generation scrapper and dam proud of it
I haven't passed up much over the years as I was born to recycle what society wanted rid of.
I always preferred the path less traveled.
And get in while the gettin's good is also a good idea, IF you come up with it mostly on your own.
I say that as when I started hauling all the stuff home over 30 years ago, most thought I was crazy as they were accustomed with the idea of having to pay to get rid of what they viewed as obsolete or in the way.
I'm still viewed as a mystery as I don't go with the popular flow and most can't understand WHY I do things in the way that I do and how I view the world, but then again maybe they don't want to for their own personal reasons.
I have been reading over this thread and thinking about how I don't have many of the "problems" that most others have to "think on". I enjoy thinking about most everything that I do and not being in a rush as it takes room for proper thoughts to process properly and end up being well thought out in the end.
Like on the A-Team.
I love it when a plan comes together...
maybe I should grab a mini folder and play a tune....
