    mother load

I'd been seeing a pile a scrap AL with window door frames storm doors . I est about 2000# well stopped at house
he's a contractor and he said I can have it but I offered a split I figure 60/40 But I do have to separate
wood and plastic so he then has trash for dumpster maybe 70/30 if it proves hard .
He needs the help that I see, it's a mountain of AL windows door frames 50 ft X 50 ft 5 foot tall
might be more then 2000# AL
and theres a dumpster also there filled
Also plenty of steel bikes lawn mowers a classic farm find .

Why would you offer a cut if he's letting you have it for free? Your just throwing money away. He's benefiting by you doing as he doesn't have to touch it that is payment enough for him.

that's awesome and a great move even if its a little harder work its worth it and f350 you must not understand good business. first he is making money and that's good second he is being nice to a fellow human with a problem and that's nice to do while making money and that's good. third he is a contractor with friends and businesses who may have problems to clean up and with so much effort and being nice he is generating a story for this guy to tell everyone he knows to spread that great word of mouth and that's awesome. these things and of course a good clean up afterword and not cash lol goes along way in this business and helps keep all of our reps in good balance with the tv smashers that ruin it.

He also said I can keep it coming . I have memory of some stories from people who with regularity give scrap to others for free. The fact that I stopped to inquire was because it was sizable.
I walk away saying the same thing (to myself) the person you give it to must be a great friend
cause that pile of mess is worth $150 .

What travistemple202020 says is correct and also I don't like being the guy who gets a massive load for free -
that can be a regular business lead
say 6 months down the road he talks to some people and says yeah I give all this AL for free to this scrapper guy
Yada yada then in conversation a reply like -
dude woe AL can be like .65 a pound or a $1 # cause you know now we have a story of exaggeration now. Next i got to defend myself or the guy feels taken advantage of.

Thats whats nice of scrap biz the free find and the proper business deals .

I guess it comes down to how well you can market yourself. If your effective and can keep contacts with free disposal your just that much further ahead.

Realize I am no fool , as I work the situation & load the AL in truck I'll put all the plastic in the Dumpster
and wood goes for the burn pile
I'll then rake clean area . If it makes him happy and I feel frigging tired I'll adjust split based on how I feel and how neat area becomes
I also know the value of a person like me with desire work the pile of mess to .50 # AL .

I get it. It is not about the money, it is about the consideration. You get this great source for scrap that cost you nothing but time and yes, he is happy to have it gone at no cost to him. He smiles at the clean yard. However, you return with a few dollars (maybe even only lunch money) for him and you have a supply for life, He will call you again and again because it is not about the amount of money you give him, it is about the consideration you show him for giving you the scrap.
    Have Fun,
    Harold

If you see him as a future asset if you treat him well I would sell off all the aluminum, and instead of giving him a split of it throw him a gift card to menards if he is a contractor, means a lot more then "heres ur cut!" seems to me the best way to do it its a lot more personal to give a gift card then a cut in cash seems like more of a partnership and giftcard seems more of a gift. If he asked for a cut then give him one is what I'd do, but if not I would make it more of a gift, like a giftcard, buy him lunch or dinner somewhere, pay his dumpster bill. Just jabbering.... I myself have never paid anyone for metal.... and I just got $650 in copper wire for free, offered him payment for it and he declined..... Only thing I do is purchase the goods, or gift them stuff, would never do a end profit split. Good luck and hope 2 see pics of u atop your mountain of al.

Yes I'll get pics going , Gift card to out back , lowes true said , He makes money (good money )
so my cut to him would just go into his pocket and get lost with payments from customers.

I too like the gift card instead of cash. Not only is it more meaningful but it may give him a reason to go somewhere he might not ordinarily go. As a lifelong contractor, however, I would say that a home improvement store card would be ok but not preferred. Otherwise he might just wind up buying job materials which is the same as giving him cash...
