Shred not as clean as before

Not sure about all of you, but things have changed a bit here. Before bikes with tires were a problem and they did not want dishwashers with plastic tubs. Now everything seems ok. I think that both the yard and the yards buyer just want any steel that they can get, to fill there orders... so I am not cleaning my shred (if that even makes sense) as much due to low prices...

I never really cleaned my shred, my yard didn't care at all. Only thing I don't take in is dishwashers with plastic tubs, because I want the tubs for storing scrap

We purchase laptop computers and many components for greater than scrap value. We offer a shipping reimbursement program.replies

Our yard has never really cared. I love it! Inkjet printers are mostly plastic, but they count!

Hobo, not sure what your yard's state of mind is but we still dock for plastic on the dishwashers as well as wood, etc. We were just talking about this today, the boss and I about how little a roll off of steel is worth now that prices are down.

could it be that there are new workers not catching the garbage on the scrap?

I think Hobo has it, yards are trying to get their hands on as much already here because of the China thing. It seems to be state dependent because the yard I go to has always taken everything in as mixed tin to get you in and get you out asap. Then again, I always bring them a mix of stuff so it's no wonder.

I've never cleaned steel. My yard takes lawn chairs with cushions, dishwashers, keyboards, printers, anything that contains metal they want it as shred. Also they are even lenient and pay me clean aluminum for aluminum with plastic on it, or extrusion such as screen doors and plastic on it.

Yup my yard has never been picky about light iron either. I've always brought printers and all kinds of low grade electronics, swirling office chairs, regular chairs with cushions and wood seats, steel rims with the tire, all kinds of stuff and they've never complained.

My yard is a little picky, and I think it's always good business to deliver good product. But really, with prices like they are, the a point of diminishing returns to excessive cleanliness is hit pretty fast. The lower prices have lowered my standards, I'm sorry to say.

I don't think so, they are moving out the steel as fast as they get it. Another place is advertising dirty brass for $1 a pound. A lot more than the $.62 I got last time. They must need the dirty brass in order to pay that price.
