unexpected items you sold instead of scrapping

Hello, guys and girls. I would like to start this thread by saying: please only post pictures of obscure or items that typically may be scrapped but were sold instead. Pictures are worth a thousand words and perhaps we may learn from each other before throwing resale items in the scrap bin. I know some of us make most by resale some do half and half while some scrap everything.

Paint mixing color matching machine

Saved this chevelle from the scrapyard and flipped it for a profit.

That Chevelle certainly looks like some coin in the rough...

Here's an old industrial light my friend had in his junk pile behind the house. He didn't remember where he had got it. I took it home, got the nasty bug water out of the globe and sold it to an architect guy on CL for $15. i wish maybe I would have asked a bit more but certainly better than just steel.

Here's something that I bought at a rummage (for a buck!) that I tried selling on ebay but think I'll probably throw in the steel pile. There is an ebay market for these but I think mine just isn't in good enough shape for a collector and because its bulky (about the size of a 5 gallon pail) and over 5 lbs. it was $18 to mail so no one wanted to pay even $4-5 plus the freight. I guess these picnic coolers were popular in the 1950s. I never saw one as a kid in the 60s and early 70s but maybe we weren't hanging with the right crowd...

After seeing some of the stuff people were buying on eBay and Etsy I decided to list my lot of four "Vintage / Antique" Lag Hinges aka clean steel scrap. They sold for $7.99 Buy It Now! $1600.00 per ton adjusted for the 1 lb. weight!!! Thanks to the person who put the Steampunk post up I used it in the title.

SS Trays from Body Fridge.

Solar/Wind Powered Clothes Dryer.

Freezer converted into a Storage Locker.

Not Steel but good flip...Old Buffet bought for $30 and sold for several hundred after being refinished and distressed.

Couple of things we kept...No way this was going anywhere after the wife got her paws on it...works great.

Custom steering wheel cover for my 6.9 IH Diesel made from scrap aluminum and badge from old International Harvester freezer.

that looks more like a 68 Impala than a chevelle...love the scotch cooler, have the exact same one, but mine isn't mint enough to sell...

sometimes I get lots of carburetors to scrap, but I always run the #'s on them to see if anything is rare. found a 4bbl that fit a 70 charger, sold it for $150 to a guy doing a numbers matching restoration, other carbs end up being part of tri-power setups, or other rare setups that people didn't recognize.

You may be correct, now I can't remember, it was a few years back. Sold it as is no motor or windshield.

My dad found one of those about 10 years ago.. had about the exact same reaction.. tried to sell his on Ebay too.. Not one nibble.. I think they are cursed!

Sledge- Yeah, maybe your dad and I are jinxed. There is a market for those things if you check out completed listings on ebay but I think they have to be in great condition and wait a while for the right buyer. There are a number that went in the $14-18 range and then this one, but I think the seller had the extra "bang" of the little cooler packs to go along. I was surprised that this one had some corrosion on the inside (mine is just a tad bit worse) but their outside must be nicer than mine. plus the extras.

I might try to find a consignment shop (we have a pseudo-antique "mall" in my bedroom burg, maybe talk to one of those sellers) like M688 suggested. First, I thought I try a "combo" package. I have this vintage "Triple-Stacker" cooler-cooker thingy that I bought for an Abe at Goodwill. Can't get a bid on that either so maybe both together (although my oversize shipping is still above $30). I'll check out other venues before giving up on them and throwing 'em in the steel pile.

Nice!! I guess it depends on how bad you want/need the money. I think those will keep appreciating over time. If nothing else get some opinions on what its worth now so you have a baseline figure that you can potentially work with.

Neon transformers. I cleaned up a sign shop's back lot and stripped the aluminum off the signs and was left with the transformers. I tried to scrap them, then give them away. No luck on either. Yards wouldn't touch them because of PCBs. I then found ebay. They sold for $25 - $30 each and I sold around 50 of them.

Who does that ? A good roller Chevy for scrap ?!!
It's kinda hard to tell for sure if it's a chevelle or Impala. Need a better pic !
