Had to let one of my guys go on Christmas eve

The whole situation was getting out of hand. Myself and the kid(Cody he's 25yo)did pickups, dump runs, clean outs etc while Ron worked at the shop tearing down stuff. Ron came in about 11ish but stayed til 8 every night. Cody and I usually knock off at 5. When Cody wasn't running with me he was at the shop on tear down duty. Every Tuesday Cody and I haul in non ferrous to reno(I get the same price for tin and prepared in Carson so no point in taking it to reno). We go on Tuesdays because Ron has to pay his weekly rent on Tuesdays. Typically Ron takes off Tuesdays which is fine with me. My rule has always been that HE needs to come to ME to get his money. I won't chase him . Well Tuesday we were running a little late getting back from reno, Ron calls asks what's up, told him on the way stay at the shop I'll be there shortly. Showed up at the shop he's gone. So I left. Cody showed up Wednesday morning like normal 7:45. He wakes me up. I get up get moving. Do like normal take empty buckets back to the shop. Load trash take trash to the dump sell tin. Etc. Do a pick up from local auction house for my mom deliver it to her house. By this time its 10:30-11ish. Have Cody call Ron. He starts screaming and yelling at cody (can't say what he was yelling) but it wasn't nice. Basically he said he wasn't coming in til I brought him his money. I'd had enough at that point so I took him his money and told him to kick rocks. Gave him till next Wednesday to remove his stuff from the shop and my house. Sorry for the long story but needed to vent.

Sorry to hear about it. However if he had that short of temper it would have happened sooner or later. Take it as a sign and get new help if needed or just stay with the two of you.

That sounds like a cluster. We work 8-5 which is much easier to regulate than people coming in whenever they please. They are like kids, you need to make schedules. Don't give them too much freedom.

It's no excuse, but I'll bet he wasn't even that upset about the money. Something else set him off and you were the match.
In any event, he cant yell at you or your son.
    He's fired.

Some places an people still choose the weekly option.

Not everyone is a criminal or trash that pays by the week. I got two friends who rent rooms in houses down here an pay weekly.

It sounds like the stress of the holidays? Took it’s toll on both of you.

    Didn't say you did bud.

    I added the trash part.

My point was...You don't need to live in a half-way house to pay your rent by the week. I used to do it that way when I rented a room years back.

People judge people on the silliest things (Not saying you Metal, general you/people/etc), If someone lives in a trailer, people assume their trailer trash, rednecks that blow **** up, rednecks that don't date outside the family..etc. An it's silly to assume that unless one knows the people living there or the park.

I got a trailer park here on my sandbar. Rent by the week, an during the summer it's very costly..almost cheaper to rent a house. lol.

Anyhow, I just had to point out the fact it's not a bad thing to pay by the week.

    Rant over.

Yeah when I heard weekly rent I automaticly assumed half way house , I agree with the cost effectiveness . Vacation rentals make sense . Cause people are staying temporarily . I once rented a studio apartment in a very rough part of town , but my rent was still monthly . Prob the cheapest rent I ever had . Guess every region or area varies . I didn't even think about room rentals but that makes perfect sense .

I hope the kid mans up and realizes his error , I originally asked about his living situation because I thought the answer would help describe his work ethic . From the sounds of it he lives at home and has zero responsibility .

I hope he doesn't become a disgruntled ex-employee and decide to go after you for unemployment...or even worse, if you were not covering his portion of FICA and Medicare Taxes you may be soon. When it come to cases like these typically the Government will side with the employee unless you know the ropes inside and out...much like Ebay sides with the Buyer.
