This job is a little to big for me. It sucks.

Before I start this story I have to just say that I have a full time job and work 60 hours a week. I LOVE scrapping and do it on the side when time permits. Got a call from a very large company asking if I would take all the metal desks and dividers at their company. They can't sell it and want it gone. Said I would come take a look at it. Got there and quickly realized I was in WAY over my head. There was enough to fill a semi 10 times. The company doesn't want anything to do with it themselves, they just want it gone. Can't believe I am actually not going to try this somehow, just don't have the time or the guys.

Shoot me a P.M. If you know anyone in WI that could do this. Must be gone in a week or two.

one thing that would help with transportation issues is most scrap yards have roll offs and arrangements can be made to have them dropped off.
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

    What HatMatt said...

For a job like that, a scrap yard would be all over giving you a roll off container

My problem is the time issue. It is just me. I would have to hire at least 5 guys and with a full time job it's just not feasible for me. maybe I should broker it and take a finders fee.

is this piled up in a warehouse type setting, or do you have to take apart a cubicle farm?

You would have to take it apart. The desks are all there inside the cubicles. Everything would have to be tore down. I am good friends with a guy that works there and his "guess" is that it would be around $25K. Great, piss me off even more.

Playing devils advocate.......I have scrapped alot of this cubicle stuff over the years........What about wood tops on desks and the fiber on the cubicle panels themselves..........Rarely is this stuff all solid metal

Do you have work vacation time? this could be useful for this. No need to tear down, find a yard that will just take it and deduct for wood tops, most do this.

I've set up and taken down cubes and I've never seen any you could just kick down. The last ones I dealt with were more wood than anything and very heavy and took time to tear down. Unless you're familiar with how to tear these down quickly and haul them off, I would pass. I'm like you. I have a full time job and scrap on the side. I know one day I'll get a call like you and won't have the time because of my job or it will require manpower and equipment I don't have. Sometimes you just have to know when to walk away.

Not to be that guy, but in most cases, this is something your supposed to CHARGE for. I've done large office cleanouts, it is labor intensive and while I did fill up a roll off with metal I also filled five waste management roll offs with wood, plastic and junk.

I would do it, and you can call me this weekend about it BUT the company MUST provide the trash roll offs on site. No ifs ands or buts, there's going to be wood, plastic and junk in those drawers by the tonnage.

Road Trip? we can show them what us NY boys can do! lol. Maybe we can get Mr Neck to come along as well.

It does sound like its at least a dumpster provided job, if not a payed gig.

yea plus reselling that many cubicles you would need one hell of a compound to store them

Some yards, mine included, will accept these items as they are in limited quanities. I would definitely call ahead and make an agreement before showing up at the yard.

another option is for you to sell it to a used office furniture dealer. you would probably need some kind of documentation from the company authorising you to dispose of the items any way you see fit.

A quick search brought me to this site that does auctions as one of its services. No experience with them, just an out of the box idea

I would love this type of project, but the time line does not fit. It is time for Christmas vacation and time lines do not fit in this recipe. Good luck.
