Well this is the 3rd friday in a row that i havent gone curb shopping , it feels wierd. Havent been to my yard in about three weeks ethier . I guess its that time of year . Curbco is slow and this unprecidented price drop . Its $0.075 a # for shred. Oh well . Anybody else facing this ? Regret not having solid contracts like some of you guys .

I'm in the exact same boat. Curb co. has been slow and the yard went from 200 ton to 140 a ton in the last 2 weeks. All my stuff is coming from auctions. Its actually cheaper to buy scrap than hit Curb co.

    I got 340# after spending 3.25 hours and about 10.00 in gas over 2 days at Curb co. = $23.80 - $10.00

    vs

    540# spending 45 mins to pick up the auction, $1.40 for 4 steel bathtubs (1 cast iron), and 8.00 for gas = $37.80 - $8.00 - $1.40.

thinking of auctions and steel I was joking about this the other day for non electronic scrappers cause I usually can buy a pallet of 50-60 computers for $40 mind you there picked of hds and some memory if its newer but I get about $60-70 or more if more servers in steel alone. the joking was that buy for steel alone load a pallet cut it and dump it if ya wanted.

My yard is 40 miles away.

I fill at least 1 30 yard bin per week.

They don't want to send me bins anymore because the cost of trucking is "so high" and apparently 4 tons a week is no longer worth their while.

PLUS they dropped me from 150 to 130 a m/t this week.

My scrap metal hauling is the majority of my living these days and it sure is tough getting paid less and less every year.

Closest yard to me is paying $85 / ton for shred and unprepared iron and $70 / ton for car bodies. Another yard down the road pulled some of their personnel to work in their non ferrous building across town and made the remark "It looks like a ghost town out there". I think I was their only customer the day last week when I delivered a 3 ton load of farm machinery. They paid $140 a ton. I wish I had some vehicles to load my computer monitors and printers into. I'm liking the 100 lb propane bottles. Sold 5 the other day for $100 (total) to a guy making barbeque grills. I keep the brass of course and remove it like this: (makes a nice vice)
