I have a bunch of silver plate and E-Wasted just added it to his buy list. He has it as silver plated brass. Is there an easy way to determine what the silverplate is on ?
I tried a magnet on it and its all non magnetic. Its all labeled silver plated or such. Do you file off some of the silver to see if copper shows ? Not sure but Im thinking of
cashing it in . Your input / advice is appreciated.
    Thanks

Scrape it with a file.... Yellow or white = brass, red = copper. Check the bottom. Many times they are hallmarked with the silver plate on X or Y. Make sure not to throw sterling in with the load.

Brass is much harder. You can also hit it with a torch to see if it melts to distinguish the two.

I've been paying about $10 to $25 a ounce for nickel plated brass that's about 100 years old.

Why? Does it have value separate from the value of the metal? How do you find it?

It's older nickel plated brass and some times plated copper badges. Sometimes they are just brass or copper.

I find most on eBay the worlds biggest garage sale.

I posted on it in a vague way as I wanted to let peoples imaginations fly as far as some do.
