Some, but not like the before time. Turned out the pile of silverplate was 45 pounds.

Pretty good days yesterday and today. A gal sold me a brass lamp, probably 7 or so pounds for 25 cents...

I also got an air compressor and leaf blower with a long extension cord for $15...

... and a two gun Woodstream gun case for 50 cents...

Used it to consolidate a bigger case and make storage more compact. Selling two other cases.

I have a cool story about the Woodstream gun cases... I get this job hanging ceiling shelves in a garage for a very nice older couple and I am going about the job. The gentleman comes out and asks if he can keep the packing material styrofoam. I told him "of course, it is your stuff anyway". He tells me needs it to ship some guns. I tell him I have a couple gun cases I am selling... And we are off to the races. Turns out he is a competition shotgun instructor. I tell him my son and I have been shooting, turns out he shoots at the same club. He asks if we would mind if he joined u and I said "no", we could use a little coaching. He joined us and introduced us to sporting clay shooting. I knew they offered the sport, but never went because it was out of my comfort zone.

We went and had a great time. He gave us pointers that made an immediate difference in the results of the sport. We enjoyed it so much we went back with a friend of mine I ran into and he had a great time too. I got a text from the gentleman letting me know he would enjoy joining us again and I think I will let him know the next time we go.

The guy is amazing. He was the CEO for McDonalds, a NASCAR driver/owner, competition shooter, brother was CEO of Remington Arms. He really lit up when I told him I had just bought a Rem 28ga. When he picked up the gun cases, he looked it over and started telling me all about the gun, where it was made and why it was made there, how rare it was (nothing crazy, people just buy 12's and 20's way more than 28's)

The really shocking thing for me was when my son showed up to shoot before the guy shows up, I'm telling him who to expect and he is like, "big guy, tall, bald? Named Ed?". Turns out my son knows him.

It all goes to show you never know where something will lead you. Garage sales----> Shotgun cases---> Work Client----> shooting with son---> great day and improved performance shooting.

A silver plated brass set for $12....

It makes me a little sad to see something that was a special treasure, a focal point of previous generations thrown into the scrap bin. I imagine those that turned in their silver sets to get the $$$'s felt the same way.

Today was a great garage sale day. Not many sales, but I was able to pick up a really killer copper fire pit! 40 inches around. It will never burn through. I have a steel one I have used an old brass pan to burn in to save the steel bowl, but it is time for that to cross over to the scrap yard bridge. I have been waiting to find a bowl I could use for a fire pit. This thing is perfect!

I was also going to a job and saw a sink trashed along side the road. I got the job done and went back and picked up the sink. Ding! Ding! Ding! A stainless Kohler 60/40 sink in nice shape with a Moen pull out faucet. Just needs clips. Alongside was a bag I knew contained a garbage disposal and I grabbed that to. Turns out the was a Badger 15 stainless steel GD in like new shape/ Pugged it in and it ran smooth as can be. I will be listing the sink on FB and CL.

Good week yard sales. Got a big dog cage for $5, a ten piece (complete) Duralex glass mixing bowl set for $10, a couple of LED drop ceiling lights for $5, and 23lbs and 9oz brass.

Included in the brass are the parts to an old lamp. As I tore it apart, I was surprised to find copper sockets. Don't often find them and I had to pull them off and save them for parts. Sometimes I can't stomach throwing the old, high quality parts away, even if I don't have an immediate use for them...

I also picked up a JFK memorial brass plate. Funny thing is I just got done with O'Reilly's Killing Kennedy. I am a bit of a Kennedy buff and I found it a very interesting book and I learned things I did not know.

Got some brass and copper scrap today... A huge copper bowl and a little brass tray for $6... A brass tea set and UPS battery for another couple bucks.... But the best deal of the day went as follows... I picked up a job where I have to angle cut 6" composite decking material and my chop saw it too small to handle it. I get a call to fix a laundry room light that wasn't working. I go there and it is a bad switch. I pullit and am about to head to HD to pick one up and he says, "oh, by the way, that is a dimmer switch."... I hadn't noticed, but hey, I head on my way. I head down the road and see a garage sale sign.... I stop in and notice a bunch of switches and think, "What are the chances?" turns out they are standard switches with a dimmer slide. I ask and the guy says $3... I look up and see a compound slide miter saw. I ask "how much?" and he says $30.... "Would you take $25 for both?" I ask. Sure. he says. Got two oddball items just as I needed them!

It has been a while since I had a silver score, but yesterday I had a good score. A bunch of silverplate and I offered $8 and was countered with $10 and I took it. I was talking to the guy and told him I was a scrapper and the silverplate was probably on brass, and if I was lucky some might be on copper. Went out this morning to separate and it turns out most of it was on copper.... 13 pounds. I would say about 7 on brass, but the real score was a 20 ounce sterling plate. Certainly made it $10 well spent!

Two scores in the past couple weeks.... I got ~90lbs ICW for $10. I sold one cord for $25 and scrapped the rest for what you see on the ticket

A week before I saw a box of copper wire and picked that up for $10 also. Cleaned it was 115lbs of #1 copper wire.....

This weekend I stopped at a sale and there was a ton of silver plate piled up and around. I asked how much for it all and was told $100. I told him I would take it and loaded it up. Sorted it and took it to the yard and got $367 for the load.

Nice score ! Dumb question but does the silver plate go as brass or do they have a different category for that ?

If the plate is brass, it goes as brass. If copper, it goes as copper. The brass and copper are from that buy... actually, the whole load was from that buy.

Nice haul. That's the fun of scrapping for me. You just never know. Some days are a bust. Every once in awhile ... you hit the motherlode and it's game on.
