Good find. Tons of western and show collectors out there would be interested in these.

Yesterday I picked up a large Amazon Kindle in a protective case for $10. Probably 6" X 10" or so. Seems to work perfectly. I have a friend who in a S-hole nursing care facility since having a stroke a year and a half ago. He has nothing, and no one visits, and he is not being forced to rehabilitate. He just lays there. I try to visit once a week. I figure 35 years of friendship it is the least I can do. I am working on setting it up so he can use it. He never really used a computer or read books, and he says he is not interested, but I just hate to see him lie there with nothing. I am hoping to pick up a set of earbuds so he can listen to music or video privately. 60 years old and his left side does nothing. It is something I feel obligated to do but it is very depressing. I wonder if anyone would do the same for me.
I'm sorry for your friend T. It's kind of a sad situation being stuck in the nursing home like that. Every day the same as the last ... the endless routine monotony. It's understandable that a fulla could become depressed and just lie there. The stroke probably caused brain damage. Personality changes after a stroke wouldn't be out of the question. Maybe there's not much to live for anymore.
You just never know ... that once a week visit might be the high point of his whole life. You are doing something good.
It might be suggesting too much, but is there any way you could get him outside of the facility for like an hour or two from time to time ?
It could be just about anything.
Go for a walk outside ?
Maybe go for a drive around town so he can see the changes going on ?
Take him out to DQ for an ice cream -or- out to a restaurant ?
Maybe take him out shopping for a few small personal items ?
Maybe a trip to the pub for a beer and a smoke ? Crazy as it sounds .... it's probably alright as long as you clear it with the nursing staff ahead of time.
I don't know as there's all that much that can be done for him. Most of the time ... people aren't in the nursing home unless they really need to be there. Still ... there's always the hope that some little thing like your visits can be the bright spot in someone's life.
Back in the day, I used to like to take pictures with a relatively nice 35mm. Time passes by and photography slips away with responsibilities and then the whole, camera on the phone thing. I have been thinking I might want to get back into taking pictures again with a better camera. I didn't want to plunk down $500+ dollars for a camera I may or may not be able to keep interest or that I may back over with my truck, so I have kept my eye out for a garage sale digital camera.
I have actually missed a couple of really good cameras. I saw a Cannon someone wanted $20 for but was in someones hands and they didn't set it down and wound up buying it. Another sale there was a nice Pentax digital, but she was asking $50, and a $50 digital camera at a garage sale seemed like an easy way to separate myself from $50. It was about that time she told me it was a gift from D i c k i e Betts wife and it was listed at $600 and she would sell it on ebay…. Sigh, I wish I would have snapped it up.
So last weekend I came across a 21MB Kodak that is in like new condition and it was listed for $5.I got it and have been trying it out. Seems to work and I will probably start posting some pics I have taken. Here are some I just took of some of my orchids. They look pretty good. I may be back in the picture taking hobby....
Nice. Probably one of your better $5 deals, then again, with all your luck, maybe not
Today was a brass day. A dollar here, five dollars there, at the end of the day, $8 for all of it. I went to a sale and saw the lamp with $1 on it. A gal and I went over to flush the seller out and when she came out, I told her I would take the lamp for a dollar. Well the lady that was there said that she wanted the lamp. I said, ok, I will sell it to you for $2. She sneered at me and said yeah right. I said OK and picked up the lamp and walked off.
I got the two little piggy ashtrays for a quarter. The brass plates, $5. I have mentioned in the past that if you put a brass plate in your grill and use that to burn your charcoal on it will keep the bottom of the grill or the charcoal grate from rusting out.
Went out and hunted in the morning, then went to do a job. On the way home (well actually, driving around on the way home) a ran across another sale. Like I said, today was a brass day. The little items on the right hand side are plated copper. I paid $4 for that pile...

Hice action1 People really must want to dump stuff down there. Up here, these stubborn northern Midwestern seldom let things go for cheap...
I had a bit of luck today. Found some brass candlesticks. The shorter ones weigh 13.5 lbs. and the taller ones 14.5 lbs.. Paid $15 for the lot.
Did they come painted/ non brass color or do you think someone modified them at some point...?
Picked up a really cool mirror. The guy had a decent price on it and I asked for better and he took it. I got it for $30 on Saturday and flipped it tonight for $100. I also bought a pac and play thingy for $3 and sold that today for $25. Pack and plays are something I have bought a few times in the past and have been able to get what I asked (and the buyer got a good price on them too). This one was a bit beat up, but still in nice shape.
Today I went to a sale with a shelves full of silver plate. Tea sets, platters, dishes and other items, all told, probably 20#. I paid the guy $18. SO I get home and start sorting through the items and lo and behold, there was three sterling items. A candleholder and a creamer cup and sugar bowl. I don't know, maybe 2 oz or so.
I also picked up this cane sword. Very nice shape, I paid $20...
I also picked up this jump start for $20. He had a note written on the user manual that it was bought in 2019 and paid $80 for it. Looks pretty good...
Nice to see the yard sales popping back up.
That cane sword is awesome !
Remember... wherever you go... there you are
Yeah, I had a collector stop by and gave me an education on the sword. He pointed out that it was a modern sword and wasn't worth much. I still think it is worth more that the $20 I paid for it and will just keep dropping the price until it moves. The cool thing is I got his name and if I run across anything really cool, I can send him a note and we can work out a finder fee for anything I send his way. I run across really cool schitt all the time that I have no way to sell.... Now I do.
On another note, the Stanley FatMax just sold for $40, so I am back to even on the two items.
Good week! I got 8 LP tanks, three were full and five empties. I have already sold 4 of the empty tanks for $10 each. I also got three Lodge frying pans and a Lodge kettle for $2. I actually paid the $2 for one of the pans and had the others thrown into the deal buying the Ryobi generator for $150 (just sold it for $250)
I also got a battery charger for $2 and a bike to harvest tires to fix my Kee mower (the bad side of that is now I have to mow the yard tomorrow).
Someone thanked me for this post and I thought I would let you know Franko died in February. He hung on long enough to see his son and DiL and newborn grandson. We had a remembrance ceremony where he liked to jog and toasted him with Jack and Ginger (his go to drink). There were quite a few people there, many of whom I knew.
Today turned out to be a good day for silverplate. I haven't really had a chance to go through it yet, but I would say 30-40#'s. Hoping for some copper, but even so, I paid $30, so I am already in the black. There were some interesting pieces that I may try to sell on marketplace...
