From what the website states they can broker a refiner . I know material will determine yield . But does anyone know of a minimum required weight ? From what the site said they charge a .50 a # handling fee on refining loads . I plan on making a trip there to get a complete price sheet , see what items I can add to my buy list and try my best to be competitive on local pricing. Let you know what I find out sometime next week.

On a side note my f150 is throwing a 171 error code bank 1 lean . I have changed the plugs, wires , resealed the intake manifold and
Cleaned the gaskets and mass air flow sensor . Still at a rough idle and shakes when I accelerate . So I have a friend who is mechanically inclined then I am coming to take a look . Prob. A vacume leak in a hose somewhere . Anywho my point to this paragraph is that I will not be able to venture on this expedition until after this weekend and get the truck back to its usual happy self .

Just an FYI or warning, I was totally ripped off at Maryland Recycle in Rosedale this past weekend. Several things were wrong and I may not be going back there. This yard is fairly lenient on how you prepare your scrap. They take double and single insulated wire together with ends on them for the same price which I'm OK with and they sometime mix other things like SS and Al. That is where it started this time. I had my SS and Al separate and they mixed them together giving me SS price which is the lower of the two. Then they mixed my dirty brass and clean brass and gave me the dirty brass price for everything. They often dump things in the same bin after they tare the scale. That is what I thought until I saw my ticket and everything was dirty brass.

Next it was .35 for #2 insulated wire. I don't go to the yard a lot, but 2 months ago it was .85 for #2 and I can't think that it went down that much in such a short time? Can anyone confirm this price? The last thing was I brought in 3 car batteries and a smaller battery from a backup system and they weighed me out at 16 lbs. I can promise you that 3 batteries weigh more than 16 lbs. Most of these things I didn't notice until I got home. I did fight with the guy to get extruded Al for my heatsinks instead of cast. But I ended up losing $2 in that operation. I didn't get a good look at the original ticket before he ripped it up and gave me the extruded price, but maybe he penalized me for saying something. It has been my experience that extruded is worth more than cast. So if I decide to go there again I will let them know more firmly that I know what I have and I want to know the category and weight for everything that is going on the ticket. I'm a part timer doing mostly E-waste, so I only get to the yard every few months. Maybe they didn't think that I know what I'm doing. And I guess they were right because I wasn't paying attention to their grading and weights until it was too late. Lesson learned. Is anyone else having a similar problem? If not, watch out if you go there, so it doesn't happen to you.

From what I was told they were overpaying on wire when they were allowing the mix . I am assuming they are trying to compensate by only paying .35. # on insulated across the board . I was shocked to see that the wire price was so low . I mean I know copper dropped but you were right assuming their was another factor to the price . I would call ahead if your only going in once every few months . That way you have a figure to expect and can say hey I was quoted x on the phone .

I have had success getting better rates by bringing in loads of 200-500. #'s kind of what got me motivated in joining the buyers section . I'm going to this new hunt vally place either Tom if they are open on sat or tues of next week . Keep you guys posted on how it goes . I really want to get a price sheet from them so I can have more competitive rates in our area . Sorry you didn't have a good experience there usually when they start mixing my metals I start speaking . I usually say somthing along the lines of do you know how long that took me to sort ? They have always explained to me what was going on and taken good care of me but I frequent there almost twice a week unless the garage is so packed I can't find the door .

    Maryland Scrappers

I put one item/container at a time on the scale and tell them what it is. for example- this is extruded aluminum. also take a notepad and write down items, weights, and tares. this may help keep them on their toes. I have been very fortunate to find a yard I trust and work together with. there are many times I will be bringing up my several carts and barrels of stuff and they will be weighing and emptying the first ones as I bring more up. you can also pre weigh items as well. they also use a touch screen computer system with all items and weights clearly visible.

Hey follow Marylanders. Happy New Year. I wanted to write about my experience at MRP, that was discussed earlier in this thread. I went there this morning with a bunch of low grade boards and power supply units.
The building is pretty nondescript. All you can see from the road is a small sign in front of a commercial building. You drive around back and they have a door and a loading dock with another small sign.
I got there when they opened at 8am. They are only open weekdays from 8am to 5pm. They let me back up to the loading dock and unload my stuff onto a pallet. They weighed it on a floor scale. They showed me the weight and the price and asked if I was ok with it. That was a big surprise to me, they were very up front about what they were doing.
They took my bins to the warehouse to unload, they even gave me a few others to take home that they didn't need. A check was cut up front and brought back to me.
It took maybe 20 minutes. They told me that there is a 100 lbs minimum for people off the street, they deal with big contacts here. I had over 300, so I was good.
It was a great experience and i'm glad to find somewhere to take those low grade boards.
Oh, almost forgot. $0.17 for low grade and $0.25 for power supply with wires.

Thanks PTMD. .17 on low grade might work for me. I usually break them down but with my arm in a cast I'm limited to what I can do. Boards are piling up , about 2000#'s right now. Iam at northern part of state, Delaware line, so it's a lil drive but may be worth it . Gotta do the math.

I depopulated most of the boards of copper, aluminum, and ic chips before I sold them. Just needed somewhere to get rid of the rest for more than shred. It's close to my house too, so that works.

I have called them 3x , left messages with no return call , pts md . Gave me a price sheet from there . low grade and power supply's seem to be the only items worth selling there . Did I see .20 for cell phone battery's ? Yes I did . If your local and looking to sell we have a buyer on this forum in your state with better pricing . Wink wink ... Well for any items over .50 a lb. according to there sheet
