trouble with county taking apart appliances in my yard

this is a reply to what fllimits posted earlier....i want to agree with everything you said pretty much...when i first read the post that prompted me to write that rant i typed out, yes i was agrivated by it, and i should have waited a while before posting or not posted at all......i do live in a rural area with out close neighbors...there are only 3 houses on my road that im not related to...my area has no zoning laws so i we can do most anything out here...

i understand what applies to me does not apply to everyone else....as far as the whole having to sell my house because of needing money, that just isnt a possibility...i have 3 relatives who are on fixed incomes that have trailers on my land and i could never sell it...it would just effect to many families....this land was left to me from my papaw, and there is a certain part of it where he always let any of the family that needed help put house trailers if they wanted to...i do not plan on changing that tradition..

i understand some people need higher property values so they can get loans and such,,this is just not something that applies to me..i would never get a loan on my place...i understand some people have to have credit to survive..i just dont use it...i also realize most folks were not given a piece of land from there family when they grew up either, and dont have the option of not getting loans...

in closing i want to say ive read this whole topic and it seems lots of folks have lots of different opinions..i do appologize for not making it clear that my last post was an opinion coming from a rural area...i do not know what folks deal with in suburbs and cities..i do know those places are not for me

Thanks, W549. This has been an interesting thread, I think, because it's given a lot of us a change of perspective.

But you know, you shouldn't apologize for anything. Way back (last weekend was it?), you wrote *two* posts. In the first one, you were reacting very strongly to something that had bothered you, and you expressed some sentiments that *everybody* can understand -- after all, most adults don't like it much when other people tell them what they can and can't do. Then later you came back and wrote another post where you said you had thought about the situation some more, and had decided that what worked for you where you live might not really apply to other people who lived in different kinds of communities. So you're the one who got me thinking about this whole thing, because I thought what you said there was really wise.

In my post, in a way I was just elaborating on what you had already said in your second post, because you were the one who made the light bulb go on for me. We all live in a society with other people, and just to survive and have some peace, most of us abide by certain rules and count on our neighbors to do the same. If our society hadn't created property laws, for instance, we'd all either be wandering from place to place or spending every day defending our turf. So our society gives us rights, and we even have armies and police to protect them, but the more people we have around us, the more rules we end up adding to the list. I think the golden rule is a good principle no matter where we are -- don't do to somebody else what you wouldn't want them to do to you -- but if you're in a place where you're not constantly bumping into other people, that rule doesn't take such a big bite out of your personal freedoms. Which definitely sounds better to me than living in a crowded city, which is where I am now. Often, though, we end up where we end up not because we chose to be there, but because that's where our family is, or our job, or our kids' schools, or whatever.

Anyway, thanks again for letting me see the world through your eyes a little bit, and thanks for that great insight you had about how our environments shape our lives. I think this thread has helped us all understand one another (and our annoying neighbors) a little better and made us realize that what seems "right" to one of us might not always work for somebody else.

What this thread is demonstrating is all of the issues, politics and viewpoints that happen in any society. There is no simple solution. I chose to live the life I do because of my own views and politics. I have made sacrifices to do so. I have personaly had issues with local ordinances causing me hardship while running a landscaping company out of my home in a residential neighborhood. I had a giant dually flatbed I used to haul with. I could not park in the driveway because the truck overhanged the side walk by an inch. It was against ordanace to park on my side yard. Every week my tires were chalked when I parked on the street to make sure it moved. My wife had to deal with this even while I was in Iraq for a year. It pissed me off, it was unfair I even parked it at the courthouse to prove it was not abandoned. No matter how stupid the situation was, the rules were the rules. The people of that community chose how things would be. If I wanted to stay I would of needed to make a change. Unfortunately the OP is having to deal with a similar situation. There is no one solution other than a change. It could be another fence, maybe a shed or maybe someone is annoyed by grinding. Whatever it is you can't fight uphill against things like this because it will drive you crazy. In this case you feel it's unfair, its annoying and unfortunate but that's how things are, because of the very valid points other people have brought up. Stay strong and don't let the system beat you down, don't let the problems keep you from a solution.

County inspector canceled inspection for last Friday and will call next week. I was told to just keep cleaning up. So I will clean up, haul off some stuff, Organize and put stuff in sheds and wait. David

I used to call that "peeing into the wind"

this is one reason i don't like living in the city! i live out in the country. another option sell your house and move out into the country. my closest neighbor is 2-3 miles down the road. and they don't care what's in my scrap pile in the back yard.
