    Blind squirrel finds nut...

Just scored a large lot of desktop computers (60), 17" flat monitors (80) and 15 server hubs! First time bidding on a local auction site, did well I think! Scrap value is higher than what I paid. Multiple trips in my future, but that's part of the fun. Desktops are lacking hard drives, but already found lot auctions where I can get them cheap (~$8 each) so I can sell them as working units. Might be a while to sell it all, but I know its worth it vs. scrapping them. Although I may tear one or two apart to see what I can get out of them if they don't all sell. Time to get cozy with CL and eBay and even FB freinds. I'm thinking of asking $50 for desktop with monitor? You guys have any other ideas on how to move these units quick?

Congrats on the win. Be certain that you can move them as working towers before you spend much. If some or most of the towers are the same make/model then get one up and running then clone hard drives so you can plug and play the rest of them. Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

thanks for the advice Mike, guess that's smarter than setting them all up individually. Never set computers up that way, but it looks like I need to learn, if only more my sanity. They are all the same model, and all were listed as working units, but I will test and retest before selling to avoid issues.

Most name brand monitors that size will sell for $25 per all day. I've sold quite a few older Dell, HP and IBM at that price. Depending on the specs of each computer you might be able to get a little more then $50 per. I assume they are all P4? Miked is right on about cloning the hard drives. That alone will save you countless hours.

all 60 computers are same, Dell Optiplex GX620, 60monitors are Dell 1707FPC and 17 are NEC MultiSync LCD175VXM. Like I said, need to buy hard-drives for the computers, but I think a small investment of around $10 and some time will be worth the extra effort. I checked ebay to see selling prices and looks to be a fairly good selling computer/monitor. Next issue is retrieving all items. Looking at quite a few trips, I estimate 2,500-3,000lbs worth of goods and I don't want to bang them around if I can help it. Might even be worth renting a box truck for a day to limit trips and hassle?.

sounds like fun i remember lots of trips. my first real big score was 480 desktops 130 laptops and 40 crt 15lcd monitors all using the load by load method out of my truck. 8ft bed seems like space until 50 desktops are already in and you adding more layers all while trying not to lower my wells to close to the tires lol

I priced out a 14' box truck. Will be about $115, includes everything. Might be worth it to only make one trip. Gas will add up quickly on multiple trips as well.
