    the weekend so far..

New scrapper here! fresh into the game!

i managed to score 2 refrigerators and some tvs this week and made around 80 bucks

decided to step it up this weekend.

So far I found a freezer (which someone stripped but is still a heavy piece!)
    - I have noticed that some scrappers around here ride around on bikes; with i assume tools in their back pack. they must strip the tvs in the alleys because i find countless stripped tvs..

    -2 dryers
    -1 washer

I put an add on craigslist and scored the washer/dryer set before i was flagged. The other dryer was found in an alley completely intact.

It does not sound like much but I am going to hit some nice neighborhoods tonight. Tomorrow I plan to strip everything and post more ads on craigslist and I will check the free section every 15-20 minutes. Then off to the yard come monday morning!

yeah that is what i am starting to realize.. I have not scrapped a washer and dryer yet and i am interested to see their payouts. For a refrigerator I can easily get 30 bucks so those are worth the drive to an extent if someone calls from craigslist. The big pick up days in my area are on the 1st,2nd,3rd, and 4th monday of the month. This coming monday being the 5th monday of this month, I do not anticipate much alley hunting tomorrow. I am going to just try and be on craigslist all day. If it fails, I will drive my route...

Does your yard pay for stuff with freon in it? Most yards don't.
There's nothing more fun and more effective than hitting something repeatedly with a sledgehammer

Should be mostly #1 iron. Maybe brass handles.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Iron and steel and tin is all pretty much the same to the scrap yard. You get around 200-300 a ton for it. Carry a magnet, and if it sticks, it's ferrous. If not, jackpot! Non magnetic metals are your money makers, so I hear.
