Well, you run into jerks everywhere. That is all there is to it. We have to move on and not let it get to us. Easier said than done. I know on occasion I can end up letting a jerk ruin my day. Or at least a couple hours of my day. The worst part of it, is when you end up passing it on. A simple smile and greeting will get passed around and continue to brighten people's day. The same goes for rudeness but I the opposite manner of course.

With that said, when I send messages to people expressing my interest in their old computers if they don't sell, I will send a message something along the following.

Hi, I recycle computers and computer related parts. That is I recycle and not refurbish for resale. I saw your add and would like to offer my services in case they are needed. I am not trying to lowball you and hope you can sell your items, but if they do not sell, I can offer a little something for recycling them rather than throwing them in the trash. Again, I hope you can sell these and that is even better than recycling, but if they don't move, please get ahold of me so I can make you an offer.

Then I always sign with my name and phone number.

I still get the swearing and yelling responses, but those are very few. I get many non responses. I also get responses that are pleasant such as "Thanks for the offer. I will get in touch with you if they do not sell." Once in a while I actually get a pick up from it.

Above all with this discussion, try your best to not take it personal and move on as hard as it can be.
