    scrap catalytic converter beads"

To day I acquired a cat with one of the hole plugs out .I can see the beads if I tilt back and forth. Some of the beads probably did get lost but not much
Yet the yard only wanted to pay me Mix price or $1.50
I told the yard guy you know if I sell it to you for mix price you are still going to stack it with your other cats ! I feel it is worth $30 . In the past Once in a wile they would pay me well BUT the last two I only got $3 each and was given a lame excuse that they were after market cat's .
well I am done with getting taken . This cat is around 12 years old and was sitting in a field for the last 8 years

I was wondering should I just empty all the beads in to a zip lock and sell that way .

They were probably (maybe?) being straight with you about the aftermarkets (I've never gotten more than $5 for one) but with this one, they should be able to tell how "full/empty" it is and pay accordingly. Just put a rod through the end missing the plug and mark how far it goes. Then compare to the outside. I forget exactly but I think if it went further than half way, it was considered empty and into the Light Iron pile.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Out of all of the converters i mess with i hate beads with the passion. You have to feel how heavy it is and move it back and fourth to so how much stuff moves around inside which tells you how much is in there.
They are from and where from junk 0.00-$30.00 or so.

    Same here.
Profit wise hard to take the time and use a $2.50 blade to cut off a $5.00 Cat
Doesn't really make a lot of sense, or money for that matter
BUT I just can't bring myself to leave a Cat on a vehicle when it goes across the scale

My guy would use the rod and most times counts that as a half and pays accordingly

Is it a small, large or jumbo (3.5 inch inlet) bead? If you can tell me that I will tell you how much it should weigh. That way you can ascertain whether or not it is full, empty or half full.

The problem with beads are 50% of the time I see them, they are either half full or empty. Instead of having a "honey comb" the beads are the catalyst. If you shake the cat and don't hear any beads inside give the cat a few smacks on the ground. Sometimes the beads will get wet and over time stick together.

BTW...Jumbo beads pay in the realm of $80 today.

why are you trying to sell cats to a yard instead of a converter buyer?

i take pictures of my cats and email them out to about 10 different buyers, then i see who has the best prices for which ones and ship them out accordingly
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

Well then instead of hoarding that info why not post your list of buyers for the rest of the forum to take advantage of?

The cat is half full , Since it already has the small cap off I can take advantage of adding more.
I noticed some one is selling 2 pounds of beads ( e bay ) or just wait till I find one more some day .

The only cat I ever got was from a yard. they told this guy they don't buy bead style. I asked him if I could have it he gave it to me. Took it down the street and sold it for $70.00.

Sell the beads on ebay and put it under gold Pd and Pt recovery.
