staying in touch...

Well, a couple of months ago, I get a call from a guy at a local Milwaukee business. He tells me that he saw my ad on CL and wondered if I'd come by to pick up a few things. Of course I went. If I remember correctly, I picked up two or three desktops a couple of laptops and various electronic equipment. I followed up with my "thank you" note and called him the next week to say thanks and see if he by chance had any more. He didn't, but said "you are my guy now, if I get anything, Ill call ya." GREAT!!!

About 10 minutes later, he called back and said he had a desktop, flatscreen monitor and a dead laptop. I went to get it. I brought it home and plugged it in. The computer was a core 2 duo and ran pretty well. I had one of my other contacts reformat the hard drive and put Office7 on it for me. I'm using it everyday and it works like a top. I'm typing on it now...lol.

Well, that isn't the rest of the story. I've been back to this business once a week now for the last month or so and each time, I get just a couple of things. he always tells me he appreciates that I will come to him just for 2 or 3 items to recycle. I just tell him it is no problem as I have several pick ups I can do in one trip.

This morning he emails and says, "Can you come by and look at what I have to give you? You're going to have to make at least 4 trips in your truck to pick it all up!"

YIPEEEEE!!!!! I'm going by in the morning to look at it and see what he has....and start bringing it home.



My wife ain't happy...we just got the garage cleaned out....it looks like I will restock it tomorrow.

One other bit of good news....my wife is after me to buy a shed so I can store stuff in there... I just have to play this part slow.

I bet he's probably even going a little bit out the way for you in some ways simply 'cos he likes you.
these clients are priceless, maybe grab some of his cards to send some biz' his way too.

you can also use that regular service to hit the other businesses in that spot, like kinda claim that turf and tell 'em your
the official e-waste recycler in the area, maybe when your about to go pick up from him, you can call all the other places
and tell 'em your coming through tommorow and if there's any e-waste they'd like recycled, you can pop in, might just be a toner cartridge,
don't matter, main thing is your adding clients to the same job.

4 trips is awesome! you must be excited, thinking what it could be, fantasising it's all pentium pro towers, some servers and a whole heap of cables, the real thick stuff.

My downstairs shop is constantly staying full lately. Think it's time to expand to bigger space.

Well, here is the pic just before I started unloading the third time. I'm had three loads today and will have at least two more on Monday.

As it turns out, a local business went bankrupt. They walked out leaving everything. So far I've picked up 8 to 10 desktops, and boxes and boxes and boxes of telecom boards, IC chips, wire, wire, and more wire, and more green boards and well, you get the picture.



I've also found some really neat stuff like Executive portable computers. Three of them. New in the box.

Well, I went back to the business today to pick up a metal shelf that they were giving me as part of a "thank you" for cleaning out their building. While I was there he asked if I moved large quantities of scrap iron, aluminum and stainless steel. I said let me see it! Well, there is a whole lot of sheet iron scrap, scrap cast iron, scrap stainless steel and scrap aluminum. I will have no problem moving the stuff they have. But...as an example, they have near 1000 lbs or more of stainless steel and at least 500 lbs of aluminum and I saw a lot of copper mixed in with the steel. Oh, and there are motors every where. The only catch is they want part of the money. I said "no problem, it is your stuff!" We're negotiating the split of the money now. My first pick up, assuming we get things worked out by then, will be on Monday. I'm not taking it all at once...just what my truck and trailer can hold.
