Out on the trapline today on one of the farms that I trap, I noticed a car in the woods not even 30 yards from the field edge. Went up to look at it and there was 2 cars, One more so just a farm, and the other an actual body.
What I'm wondering is, how should I approach the land owner about this? Should I offer to split the take?
How would I go about dismantling? I know about a Torch as I'm taking Welding in high school right now. I'm just wanting some input on how some of you farm/car scrappers go about doing jobs like this?
If I put a winch on my trailer do you think I could probably just back the trailer up the wood path and winch them up on?
Am I gunna need a title for the one that the body is there?
Here's the pics, let me know of any info/suggestion/concerns you have, I'm probably gunna ask the land owner about it this spring.
This is the trail going back to the cars

Here's the dirt/stone road leading up to the entrance path to the woods, so I'd have no trouble backing my trailer up here to load those cars.

Thanks guys!
Cant hurt to ask, an offer to split it with him! Might get lucky an he tell ya..'Git'm out an their yours!".
Good luck Kochy!

As for the title, u shouldn't need one. Around here u only need a title if car is 96 or newer (ky). As for the landowner.... if u know him pretty good just come out and ask. Offer to give him 75 dollars or so. If u don't know him very well, then this is what I would do... introduce myself and tell him what u do for a living, and it will help if u tell him u are in school and trying to earn ur way to making a living or something like that. Give him a card or contact info. Then ask him what he is planning on doing with the old cars in the woods. He could say "imma gonna scrap'em. In which u would offer to do all the work, completly clean everything up and split with him 30/70 or 60/40 or 50/50 if u think it is worth it. He also could say "u git 'em u have 'em. After u finish u can offer him like 100 or something to brighten his day and that will help him tell his other farmer buddies about u.
U might have to give him a day or so to think it over. Give him ur contact info and hopefully he calls u soon. Don't be too pushy though. That will hurt u.
And u never know, he might have a shed full of old CB or other electronics stashed away somewhere.
Be careful and keep us posted. Love to read this thread. I remeber when I was in high school. Never thought anything about scrappin.
Whats that long body from? A bus?
You shouldn't need titles for those since you'd be cutting them up.
Do your homework to determine if there is any resale value in the body parts. You will hate yourself if you find out all those chrome parts are worth a whole lot more than scrap. Not to mention one of the head light assemblies. Mike.
is it just me or is the one thats upside down a caddy? if it is there are gonna be at least a few parts still worth more then scrap on it
The caddy is basically just the body the whole under carriage was gone the red be no salvaging anything off it unless like the bumper.
Some of the stainless trim, bumpers, grille, other small parts may be worth a lot more than scrap, even if they are not perfect. Those parts can usually be straightened and restored. I would do a bit of research before scrapping everything.
Nice score kochy. Love scrapping iron in the woods , have scrapped alot of it around here .Lookout out for human remains , as sick as it sounds you never know.
^^zomg! lol, thats so bad BroJer but funny!
Currently in the process of making a letter and price sheet to send out to companies in my surrounding areas for E-Waste.
Nice!. Hope it works out for ya
Kochy is going to do just fine.

howd you get all those computers from a school? Are those not paid by the tax payers in your area or was it a pvt school ?
I been sending emails to multiple schools in my area but no response what so ever
Thanks in advance .
Things looking great for you btw
It was a private school headquarters that ran over 250 private schools around the united states. He seen one of my craigslist ads and called me. I guess I can say I'm really lucky lol. I still am selling stuff from that load, my basement still is a mess from it haha. Almost all gone though, Im already in the process of contacting other businesses about their E Scrap.
Aunt and Uncle's pool collasped, it sucks for them, but its good for me. I'm tearing it all apart and scrapping it. All aluminum! The insurance is probably paying for it, so they're gunna get a new one.
Make sure ya grab the pool heater if they got one. Sure ya know that, as I know you dig into those archives like me in to a freshly stocked cooler.

My latest load I took to the yard about 3 to 4 weeks back. I dont accumulate alot of scrap during the winter months, but most of the load is computer towers from break down.
Heading monday after school to a local computer repair store to pick up a 2 car garage full fill with a bunch of old computer equipment, theres a couple crts in there, but I'm able to proper get rid of CRTs for free.
Happy Scrapping!
Good looking load. Also how did you approach the computer repair shop? I plan on doing that soon with places around here. I really wanna do good.
They actually contact me. I'm pretty sure I either called them up and then they called me after a long while, or they seen one of my craigslist ads.
Anyone else remember when Kochy first joined us, an was but a wet behind the ears up an coming scrapper? An now the lad is posting his scores like a true vet. ;)
As always my friend a salute on the fine job you've been doing, an putting to work what you've learned here.
Beverage salute to you..!
Sirscrapalot - First they crawl..then they scrap. Huzzah!
Thanks Sirscrapalot! Haha I don't even remember what I was like, actually I dont think I made a meet n greet thread. I just came in and seen a post about reading all the archives and i spent like 3 days just reading everything lol.
but going today in like 45 mins to go pick up a garage full of computers. Theres a couple CRTs in the lot, but I get rid of them for free, so no big deal. I'll post pics, when I get home tonight. The machines are old.
And I just realized I think I already mentioned about this a couple posts up lol, oh well. :P
Latest Haul, Already took the monitors to the transfer station.

Going tomorrow to pick up a load of goodies, apparently a lot of cellphones in this load, that would be a first for me, will be sorting out good ones for resale. But I'm getting it all for free because the couple is moving and they have all this stuff to get rid of, so I'm head there after school tomorrow. I'm soon gunna be able to have a truck bed full of boards to take out to Mr. Ewasted. Road trip!! lol. And I will be doing it on a school day cause itd be a legit excuse for a day off school haha.
Wow, i just got on here and didnt realize I didn't take pics, dangit, there was a safe in the load. The guy gave me 20 bucks for my gas and the guy was in online marketing so he gave me a lot of tips to get noticed. The guy told me the safe was left at the house from the previous owner and they couldn't get it open, and so well we kind opened it with a sledge hammer.
kochy where are you getting rid of your crt tubes, im having a hell of a time trying to find a place to get rid of them at.
My towns transfer station takes them for free. We're not a huge town so yeah I bet they wouldn't take them if we were a huge city cause they always get a lot from the people that do drop them off.
Hows the old dual axle trailer holding up?
Sideboards are a nice addition.
Holds up nice. I'm actually using it break down escrap on top of, small items i just smash against the fenders to get the boards out haha, its a tough trailer, I'm going to be adding a 5000 pound winch to the front of it cause I'm gunna start either hauling cars and or farm equipment/big items from farm properties like those 2 cars I posted up before. I mean it is kind of wierd to tow cause of the tires, but it holds up.
Did some work to the trailer yesterday, replaced one of the rotten boards on it. I also found a board on it that will soon need replaced because it is getting really soft. It'll hold for now. Bought a light for it at tractor supply, taking it into the school tomorrow to weld a bracket to mount the light too. I'm gonna head home today and strip some dryer and stove cables before I head to work. I also bought some lawn signs from Lowes and gunna advertise about appliance pickup and also about being able to pick up cars and trucks too. I do have to buy a winch and mount it to a hitch reciever aswell. I'm getting ready for the summer and this summer I'm going to be kicking some butt as I'm gunna be out of school and need to make as much as I can to go to college, in which when I'm at college I'll still probably scrap up there. I'm also almost ready for a load to go out, I got a bunch of stripped printer carcasses and then computer towers to go out. Just thought I'd post an update.
Where you headed to college at Kochy?
Pennsylvania College of Technology, going for my Associates in Robotics Technology, and the getting my bachelors in Building Automation. :)
Oh nice. Yeah I'm technically going to Penn State as well since Penn College is a branch off of Penn State.
Truck hit 100,000 yesterday! I'm now part of the 100k + club! Turned 6 digits! Will throw up a pic of it, also just made a new contact that has about 5000 square feet of metal office cubicles. He wants 75 percent of them hauled away. He also has a warehouse of about 500 computer, I even offered to pay for them, God I hope the deal goes through and I get a chance at them, I'd have one h311 of a pay day!!
Good luck and welcome to the club, 120k and running like a top.
