    Wink Anyone find this funny?

I was doing a dumpster dive in an apartment complex and thought I saw something in a dumpster and tried to knock it upright with my hammer,it fell in so I went back to my apartment to get something to get it out.Low and behold when I got back there was another scrapper who was taking a bike that was there and guess what...he took my hammer .I got it back in the end but I just find it funny.

I am glad you got your hammer back, but i am certain if you found a hammer in the dumpster you would grab it too...lo

thats funny. yesterday i found a washer and dryer, i broke it down and was able to get the motors and the outsidesof both except the front panel of the dryer into my car along with bed rails a vacuum and desktop computer and some other type of pull out sofa frame ( had to take a sawzall to it) after getting all that into my toyota camry, i couldnt get the drum of the dryer or the tub of the washer in my car. i didnt think of trying to run the sawzall down the dryer drum ( i was too tired and sweaty at the time) but i figured after cannibalizing the washer and dryer nobody would even recognize it the rest of the day. well i was out patrolling this morning and low and behold both of them were gone... I GUESS its true GET IT WHILE THE GETTING IS GOOD. (man i need a truck lol)

99problems: I remember once I was on my way home with my wife and kiddos- I saw a whole house worth of Alum Windows at the curb- We live about 7 blocks away- I literally jumped out of the car- jumped into my truck and sped back there- They were GONE! Literally in less than 5 minutes it went from Goldmine to nothing on the curb- I didn't even see the dudes loading or pulling away. Dang!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

OH AND for reaching stuff like that i created a hook on a stick thing that i use to dig around and poke stuff and pull stuff to me. only cost me about a $1 to make it. i can snap a pic, but i think its pretty self explanatory

Its some sort of hard hard wood that i think was on a crochet mallet, that i predrilled a hole in the end, and twisted in one of those garage organizing hooks that is coated in vinyl ( i think the set of them was about $4 at walmart and it was like 10 different hooks in it) added some of that sports handle tape on the end for extra grip.

has helped me fetch a few extra things i couldnt reach with my short arms (T-REX)

on a backroad through an old, relatively quiet neighborhood in town, they've been tearing down 2 or 3 delapidated old houses. Leaning against the fence in front of one I saw two aluminum framed storm doors with full glasses, they set there for a while, but when I drove by there a few days ago, the frames were gone, and the glass was laying flat in the grass

I've seen people pull out more then 2.00 worth of scrap. I don't do dumpsters but it can be quite profitable if your hitting the right ones.

    Jus' saying.

If you hit 10 dumpsters in 20 mins, that's 20 bucks. Do 30 in an hour, well you just made yourself 60 bucks. 60 an hour sounds decent to me. And its very doable in a more industrial area. I do mostly scrap was but Im considering driving around dumpsters. If the moneys there, why not?
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Give you info to apartment complex managers and ask them to call whenever they see anything. People move out every week and leave TVs, electronics, and bed frames outside the apartment or the dumpster. The managers are usually glad to have it gone quickly.

I wish everybody thought that way. I've pulled a lot more than 2.00 out of dumpsters when I was dumpster diving. Once I pulled out a silver chain, sold it for 40.00. That was a rare find but it does happen.
