    Do you arm yourself?

i was stabbed in my lower chest 2 years ago by some guys from chicago during my towns spring cleanup all over a pile of scrap. i got there first.

now i carry a 6" survival knife from harbor freight.

who else arms themselves to prevent this from happening?

I don't carry guns or knives but in my truck are several tire irons, solid steel bars etc very handy in case I ever had to defend myself

I would suggest carrying a gun if you ever dumpster dive in my area. The most likley thing to show up while you are in there is a black bear! Never had to shoot at one if you yell and throw a couple of rocks they run away. But that one time you spook a mother bear and her cub it might be wise to have a high powered handgun at the ready. I would never pull a gun on a person usually the sight of one strapped to your leg is enough to dissuade them from conflict.

Maine has an open carry law , I am armed inside the home and in my truck unless going to my full time job , We cannot bring weapons on base .

If you're going to be armed, make sure you also have a throwaway piece.

    Just sayin'.

I don't think that I would ever allow a pile o' scrap to escalate into an assault... but let it be known. You ever pull a weapon on me, keep in mind. You won't be pulling it on an unarmed defensless man

Please know your local laws requiring the possession and use of any weapon. Also if you are going to carry a firearm be proficient with it. The last thing you want is to have someone shove it up your behind, it looks funny and it will hurt.....and the answer to the question is yes, but you dont want to find out with what.

Where I live it's almost the norm to be packing. Many of the spots I clean up are in the middle of nowhere and miles from police, so being armed just makes sense. Plus never know when you might stumble across a meth lab by accident.

As you know, its illegal to carry in Illinois. For those that do not live around the Chicago area - wouldn't understand. The only people who do carry are those that don't care about the law. Therefor since I was 16 I've always carried something in every vehicle I drive. You go from a good area to a bad area in blinks of an Eye around here. I live in a good area and don't fear it too much. But S*$t happens all the time around here and its better to be prepared than to be a sucker.

Its not a good idea to carry a knife or baseball bat to a gun fight. But it beats having nothing at all.

I am a fan of unconventional weapons especially things like CS and pepper spray (and other non-lethal defenses). You are going to have a much easier time saying you were defending yourself if you are using a tire iron or the like vs. something like a knife or gun. Aside from the few states like FL that have stand your ground laws, the law is NOT on your side, even if you think you are protecting yourself.

    Carry a gun/knife = have a good lawyer

Got old enough, and hopefully wise enough, to not go places that I need more than my arms, to be armed. NOW, come in my home, or near my family, and I can neither admit, nor deny, that either heaven, or hell, may greet you, upon entry.

There is always at least a long gun in my truck. However it is more for coyotes, rabitts or whatever else is in season or if I'm trapping. I live in the sticks now but did the same when I lived on the west coast. Always make sure you know the state and local laws.

Where is the option for "All of the above?" .. I did not vote because it would not be an accurate vote. I am all of the above.

What bout section for Fiberglass axe handle ? Pretty wicked lil club right there, also carry it as well as two pieces and a long gun. As to phantom's comments on needing a good lawyer, already have one and would rather need him than a undertaker.

I carry a handgun every where and always have a knife or two on me. You just never know. Knives very handy while scrapping.

I was a bouncer all through college, I worked in nightclubs from in Hollyweird, and some of the worst places in the SF Bay Area. In all that time I never needed a weapon, but I have been stabbed, shot at, kicked with steel toe boots, you name it.

Now days I'm older, and I don't even want to think about getting into a confrontation, but I do transport precious metals. So I am in the process of getting a conceal and carry permit. There is a group of sheriffs and police officers that get together and shoot with, it's the group to be in if you are trying to get a gun permit, sheriffs and police officers carry everywhere, you might be surprised. Contrary to what you might think, it makes me feel safer knowing there are people out there carrying legally. I know it's a small drop in the bucket compared to all the ones who are not legal, but still...
