So im scrapping this big ass toshiba tv, and I pull the big main wires off the back of the tube ( two of them) which are usually copper, but as im stripping them, the wiring is purple and when you scratch into it its silver colored. Is this still copper?

alright thanks! And I know it varies yard to yard, but does anyone know how this might be sold? Like clean aluminum or is there a category for aluminum wiring?

I get old sheet... I get a lot of old sheet. It's one step above dirty because its coated and its light gauge

unless it's tinned. if it's a high voltage wire then it will not be alum. wire. cut it and look at the ends if their silver or ??

I have noticed some TV's have been using AL wire I figure it's the newer ones of the last conventional TV's made (they cut corners) stripped wire that is AL is sold as AL . I never saw a Tin coated wire for TV use yet. If you have enough #2 coated wire you probably could toss it along with it but since you tested it and see it & know it's AL .The yard guy will see you in a negative lite if you try to scam them
To answer the question - some tv wire that sits on the tube is not copper any more, it is AL thats the deal.

Cutting the wire, the ends are silver. And copper head after I stripped the first wire, I thought about throwing the other in with insulated wire, but decided not to. Ill take what I can get for it. The yard hasnt ever done me dirty, so I wont do that to them. Thanks everybody!

Well as an example - you know yards want electric motors and i sell them only 2 types ones from washer cause they are AL wired and I also sell them any motor with LBs that can exceed the value of the CU (fan motors) they ask no questions and take them. So If you have the AL wire uncut untested sell it as you can.

I have been hitting more and more of them, Yes was a time i would find a large TV with the juicy wire on tube ( nice copper ) I don't know how many of last tube TVs were clanged over to AL but since there will be many more tube TVs to be scrapped over the years we or the new comers will discover the percentage . Since I am known for #2 copper sales ,and I never sell wire , thats the deal with me.
