George, It sounds like you guys are under the gun as far as time is concerned. Most yards have a catagory called long steel which is farm equipment that they cut up at the yard. The current price here is $270/ton. I like to torch off the easy stuff as prepared and haul the rest in as long steel.
See if you can rent a skid steer w/ grapple and a set of forks for 2 weeks. If you have a farm implement dealer the rental price will be cheaper than a regular rental place. Heck you can probably even have it delivered. You can learn to operate in 5 minutes if you are out in the open, hell it's actually enjoyable and you'll never regret it.
