---Fiber Optic Cable and Network equipment pickup

Hello, I recently picked up some stuff from a communications company that is going out of business. I picked up a bunch of fiber optic cable and a bunch of network equipment. What do yo think? Any advice?

    thanks!

I would try to sell for better than scrap.

contact local IT companies, try craigslist, check the buyers section on here, maybe look at posts and see if there is a member on here that is in that field but not a buyer, pay for a classified ad on here, etc

Fiber optic wire is pretty expensive stuff, that is a small gold mine you have there. I am pretty sure fiber optic has zero scrap value though so hope you can find someone who can use it.

How old is the fiber optic cable? I don't have any exparience with it but was told that if it is old and has been setting out in the elements it can go bad (fibers will start cracking and braking) I don't know if that's true or not, just saying. Good money to be had in those servers and switches.

Yes definitely going to sell for more than scrap. The cable is newer and has only been on pallets outside with a tarp over it for about a week so, it doesnt have any cracking. Before that it was stored in a wharehouse. Might be selling some of the fiber optic cable to a nuclear fusion research plant. we'll see how that goes. Thanks for the comments

the cable has no scrap value but, if you put it on e bay under the server heading it should sell.

the switches look like cisco they are a scrappers dream easy tear down big telcom grade board.

contact johnm he buys certain ciscop switches

the servers have the same parts as regular servers,
"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"

I'm curious what you offered them for it....Looks like a very nice score. Google or ebay those cisco server boards. My guess would be they are going for more then telcom board pricing by a mile.

Hey guys just wanted to give you guys an update on what I have done with this stuff. I was able sell several spools to different people and earned about $1,100. I still have another $1000 worth of cable that I should be able to sell. I havent got around to selling the electronics yet but, plan to. It turned out to be a pretty good score which I am very thankful for.

Thanks for the updates. I enjoy seeing updates because they add to what has value better than scrap data base. If I had come across a similar item I may have passed on it.

Yeah no point in scrapping fiber optic, there's nothing of scrap in there. Its a glass fiber with kevlar thread along with the casing.

Ya, I try to think of scrapping as a last resort. If I cant sell it, use it, or donate it... Ill scrap it. The cool thing about this gig was I learned a lot about fiber cable. Glass fiber with kevlar is one type of fiber cable but, I had all sorts of different kinds. Some have kevlar, some are in a tube with a gel substance, and some are in an insulated wire with plastic tubes for support. There is multi-mode, single-mode, multi-mode and single-mode, 6 fiber cable, 12 fiber cable, riser-rated, and 62.5 and 50.

I actually sold one of the spools to an artist that was making a project with lights. Some of the fibers produce light better than other and I found the one that was the best for light and sold it to the guy. Its been a cool gig.

Oh I went to a tech school this year for Electronics Technology (Go figure.. lol) We learned about Fiber optics and we used the kevlar kind, at first I was like that probably is worth a hefty penny, but found out it wasn't.

ya it looks like it's worth a bunch but, at least I got a good amount from it. Too bad it wasnt a bunch of rolls of copper.
