Been really slow around here for scrapping. Even the garbage days are a bust. Been talking to people at work seeing if they know anyone looking to get rid of stuff. Got a stove last week. Better than what I was getting. Then yesterday at work, a lady said to go to her son's house and he had an old metal table and some metal chairs that I could pick up. An hour later, another lady came and said she had an old heavy stove and water heater. Went to get the stove and this thing has to be 50 years or older. Huge and heavy. Has 2 ovens on it and 2 broilers. Thing has to be about 300 pounds. While getting the stove, got 2 micro waves, an old fence gate, some cast iron oven racks that belonged to a different stove. This was all rental property and she was cleaning it out. She said that when she turns the power back on she will find out if the dryer and washer downstairs worked or not. If it didn't, they are mine.

Congratulations, tjlock. That's how it starts. It'll grow by word of mouth from there. I wouldn't be surprised if you come back saying you're doing more and more business of cleaning out rental units.

I am hoping so. Last night I started stripping out the stove. Must of been one of the higher end models back in the day. A couple of deco fixtures on it looked aluminum at first look. Started taking them off and on the back of one piece I seen oxidation. I never seen aluminum do that and grabbed a file I had handy and scratched it up to find out that they were all brass fixtures. About 3#'s worth just in the deco, and another 4 with the dial control valves for burners and ovens.

Is there anything worthwhile in the broiler part of the older stoves? Like aluminum or anything else. Haven't had a stove yet that had one on there. Just thought I would ask before I start stripping it down to nothing if I don't have to.
