    To Funny.

Well while out Christmas shopping, spotted three tv's on the curb, they we're still there on the return trip. i did'nt pay much attention, till the last one rattled of broken glass. yeah somebody snatched the yolks, cut the cords, reattached the back, and placed them on the curb. Now for some of ya'll this aint nothing new. First time i've seen it,and i been grabbing them off the curb for years around here. Guess high prices and hard times got so many looking for a little cash. But the closet thing to a silver lining on this one, they took most of the boards loose, and stuck them back inside, got some decent heat sinks. one of them had a built in VCR really not sure what that wheel thingy is made from, looks like it might be good. I'll have to look them over closer next time, lesson learned LOL.

that's one clue, cut cords, from there i'd peek inside. That VCR head is Aluminum, with a copper wheel inside, basically a motor. I think the two(or sometimes maybe 4?) little tips inside it will be gold plate of some degree

Here's a photo of one. That stator with the copper goes on top of the aluminum wheel, and a second wheel goes on top of that(if i'm remembering correctly ; ) I think those little gold things are the "heads", remember they'd advertise "4 head" VCRs? This must be a two head?

Back before the no e-waste garbage law started, I would strip down the tv's and reseal them, put them out with the trash and write on the screen EMPTY! NO COPPER! the other scrappers would still take them.

I posted this before but it is related so... one of my early customers, a comp repair guy was one of those guys you could just tell from looking, sooner or later was going to burn you.

I made a couple of buys from him that were ok not much just a few lbs of various boards and towers.

Then one day he called with 9 towers. he loaded them up for me. a couple of days later I started the tear down.

All 9 towers were completely gutted. He had taken out all the boards cut off the brackets and glued the brackets back into the slots !

Granted, mistakes can happen. But in situations like this, you usually know when the guy did it on purpose. Someone did something similar to me and I didn't say anything about it. A couple of weeks went by and the guy called me and was like, "errr...ummmm.. what happened? Ummmm errr.. is everything OK with the towers?" because the guilt and shame was starting to get to him.
